Job Description

Functional Lead (Hands-on AI Product Development)

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Functional Lead (Hands-on AI Product Development) in the United States.

This role sits at the intersection of product delivery, client leadership, and hands-on functional expertise, supporting complex AI-enabled modernization initiatives for federal clients. You will act as the primary bridge between business stakeholders and technical teams, ensuring requirements are clearly defined and translated into scalable, high-quality solutions. Working in an agile or hybrid delivery environment, you will guide end-to-end project execution while shaping product direction and improving delivery outcomes. The position requires strong stakeholder management skills, deep analytical thinking, and the ability to navigate both strategic discussions and detailed functional work. You will also contribute directly to solution design, process improvement, and AI-enabled product development efforts. This is a high-impact role where leadership, technical curiosity, and delivery excellence come together to drive mission-critical outcomes in the public sector.

Accountabilities

In this role, you will lead functional delivery activities across AI-enabled software modernization projects, ensuring alignment between business needs, system capabilities, and federal compliance requirements. You will oversee project execution, facilitate stakeholder engagement, and ensure delivery quality across the full lifecycle from requirements to deployment.

  • Lead client-facing engagement, managing communication, expectations, and stakeholder alignment
  • Drive project planning, execution, scope management, and delivery governance in Agile or hybrid environments
  • Facilitate requirements gathering sessions and define functional/non-functional requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria
  • Act as functional expert on AI-enabled tools, advising on capabilities, limitations, and solution feasibility
  • Collaborate with technical teams, architects, and QA to ensure alignment between design and business needs
  • Review and contribute to functional artifacts including process flows, documentation, and system design inputs
  • Analyze business processes and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and mission outcomes
  • Support testing cycles, UAT execution, training, deployment planning, and transition-to-operations activities
  • Ensure all deliverables comply with federal standards, governance, and quality requirements
  • Identify risks, dependencies, and improvement opportunities across delivery streams
Requirements

This position requires strong experience in IT delivery, business analysis, and client-facing leadership within complex, regulated environments, ideally supporting federal programs. You should be comfortable operating across both strategic and hands-on functional responsibilities, including requirements definition and solution guidance.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Business, Information Systems, or related field
  • 8+ years of IT project delivery experience, including at least 3 years in project management or business analysis in federal environments
  • Experience working with AI tools in software modernization or digital transformation initiatives
  • Strong background in requirements elicitation, process mapping, and functional documentation
  • Experience engaging senior stakeholders and driving consensus across cross-functional teams
  • Solid understanding of software development lifecycles and Agile/hybrid methodologies
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate between technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience with project management and collaboration tools
  • US Citizenship required and eligibility for Secret clearance

Preferred qualifications include prior software development experience, PMP or CSM certification, ITIL or Agile credentials, and familiarity with federal acquisition and SaaS environments.

Benefits
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance starting shortly after onboarding
  • 401(k) plan with immediate vesting employer contributions
  • Generous paid time off (PTO), paid wellness leave, and federal holidays
  • Tuition reimbursement and access to internal training and certification programs
  • Flexible remote work environment (#LI-Remote)
  • Pet insurance coverage
  • Employee wellness programs, events, and team-building activities
  • Career growth opportunities in federal digital transformation and AI-driven modernization initiatives
  • Inclusive, collaborative culture with strong emphasis on innovation and continuous improvement
