This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Claims Consultant - Indemnity Specialty (Asbestos) in the United States.

This role focuses on managing highly complex specialty insurance claims, primarily involving asbestos and other toxic tort exposures, within a fast-paced and technically demanding environment. You will be responsible for investigating, analyzing, and resolving claims that require deep litigation awareness, strong negotiation skills, and sound judgment. The position involves close collaboration with defense counsel, internal claims leadership, and external stakeholders to ensure fair, compliant, and strategic claim outcomes. You will contribute to litigation strategy discussions, monitor emerging legal trends, and support resolution approaches such as settlements and alternative dispute methods. With a strong emphasis on analytical rigor and customer care, this role plays a critical part in ensuring equitable outcomes while protecting organizational and policyholder interests. It is ideal for someone who thrives in complex, high-stakes claims environments and enjoys balancing legal, technical, and strategic decision-making.

Accountabilities

In this role, you will manage the full lifecycle of complex specialty claims, with a focus on asbestos and other toxic tort cases. You will investigate liability, evaluate damages, develop resolution strategies, and ensure accurate reserving and compliance with internal and regulatory standards.

  • Investigate, evaluate, and analyze complex specialty claims including asbestos, toxic tort, and pollution exposures
  • Determine liability, assess damages, and recommend appropriate settlement or denial strategies
  • Manage litigation activities, including coordination with defense counsel and oversight of legal work product
  • Develop case strategies and contribute to resolution approaches such as settlements, motion practice, and alternative dispute resolution
  • Conduct reserve analysis and ensure timely, accurate case reserving practices
  • Negotiate settlements and cost-sharing agreements with insurers and policyholders
  • Participate in claim reviews, roundtables, and strategic discussions on emerging toxic tort trends
  • Prepare internal reports, audits, and claims analysis for leadership and underwriting teams
  • Serve as a coverage representative in depositions, mediations, and legal proceedings when required
  • Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to other claims professionals as needed
Requirements

This position requires deep expertise in specialty claims handling, particularly within environmental, asbestos, or toxic tort litigation. You should bring strong analytical ability, legal awareness, and the capacity to manage complex, high-exposure cases independently.

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; advanced education or certifications (e.g., CPCU, CLU, AIC, etc.) is a plus
  • 8+ years of experience in specialty claims handling, ideally including asbestos, toxic tort, or environmental claims
  • Strong understanding of insurance contracts, liability principles, and regulatory frameworks
  • Experience managing litigation processes and working closely with defense counsel
  • Proven ability to evaluate complex claims, develop strategy, and negotiate settlements
  • Strong analytical, documentation, and reporting skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for engagement with legal, technical, and regulatory stakeholders
  • Ability to manage multiple high-complexity cases simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with mediation, depositions, and legal proceedings preferred
Benefits
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Life insurance and disability coverage (short- and long-term)
  • Competitive paid time off, including vacation, holidays, and additional wellness days
  • 401(k) plan with company match
  • Company-funded pension plan
  • Flexible work arrangements, including remote or hybrid options (U.S.-based)
  • Professional development, training, and continuing education opportunities
  • Strong emphasis on work-life balance and employee wellbeing
  • Inclusive and collaborative work culture focused on integrity and customer care
  • Competitive salary range aligned with experience and market conditions
