Industrial Systems Technician

Position Overview

The Industrial Systems Technician at The Oilgear Company plays a key role in the assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of hydraulic systems, pumps, and valves. This position ensures that complex industrial systems and components are assembled and tested to meet the company’s high-quality standards. The Industrial Systems Technician performs hands-on technical work, ensuring that all tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and with a high level of accuracy. This role requires solid technical knowledge of hydraulic systems and the ability to independently perform complex assembly and testing tasks.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Perform complex assembly and testing operations on industrial hydraulic systems, pumps, and valves, and manifolds ensuring compliance with Oilgear’s quality standards and engineering specifications
  • Independently operate hydraulic test stands and other industrial test equipment, verifying system functionality and performance under pressure
  • Work from detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and schematics to accurately assemble and test components, ensuring they meet customer and internal requirements
  • Conduct troubleshooting and diagnostics of hydraulic systems and components, using precision measuring instruments and gauges to identify and correct defects or malfunctions
  • Execute complex testing procedures on sub-assemblies and complete systems, ensuring all testing criteria and performance standards are met
  • Prepare finished products for shipment, ensuring proper packaging and documentation are completed according to company procedures
  • Continuously monitor the quality of assembled products and take corrective action when needed to prevent defects or issues
  • Complete all paperwork and records related to assembly and testing activities, ensuring data is accurate and submitted in a timely manner
  • Participate in pre-assembly, post-assembly and weekly Systems Team meeting through Teams calls and/or in person meetings.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment by adhering to safety protocols and industry best practices, including the use of appropriate PPE
  • Perform light preventative maintenance on machinery and equipment to ensure operational readiness and minimize downtime
  • Maintain a high level of productivity and quality in accordance with established production targets
  • Support continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance assembly and testing processes
  • Assist with inventory control by ensuring proper usage of materials and supporting accurate stock levels
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure alignment on customer orders, delivery schedules, and technical requirements
  • Maintain clear communication with team members, management, and other departments to ensure smooth workflow and timely completion of tasks
  • Report defective materials, equipment malfunctions, or safety/quality concerns per established procedures
  • Complete tasks as directed by the Production Manager in alignment with production schedules
  • Follow all safety regulations, quality standards, and company policies
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Supervision or Management

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED, with above-average mechanical ability
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the assembly and testing of hydraulic systems, pumps, valves, or related industrial equipment
  • In-depth knowledge of industrial hydraulic systems, including pumps, valves, and related components
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude
  • Strong ability to read, comprehend, and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, schematics, processes, procedures, and policies
  • Demonstrated ability to use a variety of precision test equipment, measuring instruments, and gauging devices
  • Proven troubleshooting skills for identifying and resolving mechanical or performance issues, with the ability to provide recommendations for resolution
  • Demonstrated ability to perform inspection and testing while adhering to production and quality standards and drawing specifications for final and sub-assemblies
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with coworkers, supervision, and management
  • Ability to work any assigned shift
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical certification or degree in mechanical or industrial systems
  • Technical or vocational training in manufacturing or mechanical disciplines
  • Experience in hydraulic assembly or valve testing
  • Prior experience in a precision manufacturing environment
  • Forklift, overhead crane, and lockout/tagout certifications
