Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
Provides both technical and administrative supervision to the section to ensure the technical, administrative, direct labor and schedule targets of the section are met in accordance with applicable professional standards, design control procedures, company procedures and technical design guides. Coordinates project priorities, staffing schedules, budgets and staff assignments to ensure clients are provided the best design capabilities to meet their needs.
- Supervises all staff activities within an engineering section.
- Assigns priorities and balances workloads among staff members.
- Coordinates and monitors direct/indirect labor utilization among section staff members. Ensures that section loading calendars are completed on a timely basis.
- Responsible for quality control of work produced by the section.
- Recommends hiring, salaries, promotion, transfer, demotion and termination of section members.
- Oversees staff development within the section. Ensures section members are provided ample opportunities to participate in training and career development activities.
- Ensures that project assignments for the section are completed on schedule and within budget parameters.
- When applicable, serves as the Project Manager for key department or section projects.
- Performs other functions delegated by the Department Manager.
- Bachelors of Science in engineering from an accredited college or university
- Minimum of 8 years relevant experience in discipline
- PE
- Performance on client engagements, including discipline management and results.
- Utilization and development of human and other resources.
- Quality control
- Support of business development and marketing.
- Relationships with and support of other departments and groups, the technical organization and project team organization.
- Financial performance including budget control of project assignments and indirect costs.
- Interpersonal skills and teamwork.
MANAGERIAL SCOPE LEVEL:
Responsible for the supervision, development, evaluation and recommending the hiring and termination of staff members, as well as developing section budgets for Department Manager’s approval. The number of employees directly supervised is typically 3 to 6.
