Therapy Professional Job Responsibilities:

Clinical Practice

• Completes patient assessments in accordance with physician orders, referral information, and clinical standards.
• Develops and implements individualized treatment, rehabilitation, or respiratory care plans designed to improve patient outcomes.
• Reassesses patients and modifies care plans based on progress, objective findings, and changing patient needs.
• Collaborates with physicians and interdisciplinary team members regarding patient care recommendations and treatment modifications.
• Utilizes evidence-based practices and discipline-specific interventions to optimize patient recovery and function.
• Educates patients and families on treatment interventions, home programs, disease management, safety, and wellness strategies.
• Maintains professional communication with patients, families, physicians, and care team members.
• Participates in discharge planning and care transitions to support continuity of care.
• Supervises, mentors, and collaborates with therapy assistants, technicians, students, or support staff as appropriate to discipline and licensure requirements.
• Adheres to all applicable practice acts, regulatory requirements, and professional standards.

Department Operations

• Meets productivity and performance expectations for assigned clinical area.
• Demonstrates flexibility in managing changing patient volumes and departmental needs.
• Assists team members and contributes to overall department efficiency and patient care excellence.
• Participates in department meetings, performance improvement initiatives, and special projects.
• Collaborates effectively with interdisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated patient care.
• Maintains required licenses, certifications, competencies, and regulatory requirements.

Documentation & Compliance

• Completes evaluations, treatment notes, and discharge documentation within established timelines.
• Maintains accurate, timely, and compliant documentation that supports medical necessity, quality care, and reimbursement requirements.
• Documents patient progress, outcomes, interventions, and objective clinical findings according to organizational and regulatory standards.
• Completes required assessments and outcome measures as applicable.
• Ensures documentation is signed and completed in accordance with policy and licensure requirements.

Professional Development

• Maintains current knowledge of clinical best practices and emerging healthcare trends.
• Participates in continuing education and professional development activities.
• Serves as a clinical resource to colleagues, patients, and other healthcare professionals when appropriate.
• Contributes to staff education, mentoring, and knowledge-sharing opportunities.
• Supports student education and clinical experiences as requested.
• Completes additional duties and projects as assigned.

Organizational Requirements

Associates are expected to:

• Attend and participate in department meetings and educational activities.
• Complete mandatory education, competencies, and annual requirements within established timeframes.
• Maintain all required licenses, registrations, certifications, and credentials in good standing.
• Maintain current BLS/CPR certification and other certifications required by position or department.
• Follow infection prevention, safety, and ergonomic practices.
• Comply with all applicable regulatory, accreditation, organizational, and departmental standards.
• Be available to work additional shifts, weekends, holidays, or overtime as operationally necessary.

Education & Experience:

• Graduate of an accredited program in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Respiratory Therapy, or related therapy discipline.
• Current licensure, registration, or credentialing in the State of Michigan as required by specialty.
• New graduates are encouraged to apply.
• Previous acute care, rehabilitation, outpatient, home health, or critical care experience is preferred but not required.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Demonstrated clinical knowledge and technical skills related to the delivery of rehabilitation or respiratory care services.
• Ability to utilize discipline-specific equipment, technology, and treatment modalities.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to provide compassionate, patient-centered care to diverse populations.
• Current BLS certification required or obtained within established timeframe.
