About the role
The Senior Project Designer or Senior Project Architect is a factory specific design staff position. The SPA role is reserved for licensed Architects only; all other non-licensed team members will have the SPD role. The SPD | SPA acts as project design lead by managing and developing the BIM model in accordance with project requirements - coordinating rendering, manufacturing, and construction teams to ensure design intent, code compliance and office standards carry through to project completio n. This role involves collaboration with senior team members across the organization and external stakeholders to optimize project delivery and execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement design direction for drawings and sketches as assigned project lead
- Generate model and project documentation and manage document dissemination as assigned
project lead to ensure timely deliverable submission to Client and permitting or approval entities
- Review Revit | BIM file management to confirm conformity with office standards
- Coordinate and review design deliverables produced by architecture, drafting, modeling, and
rendering teams to ensure conformity with office standards
- Manage, document, and approve deviations from VBC product and construction standards for
integration into project model and documentation
- Manage and record C lient and Team review s and approvals through office ’s standard
documentation management platform
- Manage, track, and report on project progress and schedule utilizing standard Design and
Engineering reporting methodology ( DfMA schedules, productization score, module matrix, etc)
- Review and manage technical deliverables from engineering sub-consultants for conformity with
documented office standards while maintaining project specific requirements
- Work as an integrated design and engineering team with Senior Design Associate (SDA) to ensure faithful and profitable execution of VBC Projects under direction of Project Executive and in collaboration with designated manufacturing and construction teams
- Propose revisions and improvements to BIM manuals, procedures, Revit template updates and other items as required for incorporation into office modeling and documentation standards
- Generate and record responses to internal and external customer RFIs, revisions, comments, and requests in a professional, timely, and courteous manner
- Support and assist Senior D fMA Studio Staff in proposing alternate means and methods and code interpretations for review with Chief Design Officer, manufacturing, construction, consultant teams and external code bodies as required
- Collaborate with Senior DfMA Studio staff to create standard office documents and templates
- Collaborate with Senior DfMA Studio staff for DfMA cross training for design and engineering staff
- Conduct periodic project site and | or factory visits and document construction and | or
manufacturing progress to ensure compliance with project documentation
Support and enforce strategies that will help meet the needs of and improve the level of service to
internal and external Customers
Team Connectivity
- Works most closely with the Senior Design Associate and designated project modeling, drafting, and rendering teams
- Works closely with junior design and architecture staff to mentor and review work product
- Works closely with D fMA Studio Senior Team for initiatives, alignment, and reporting
- Works closely with Systems Engineering Team, Project Managers, Manufacturing and Construction teams on project specific items
- Position located at Manufacturing location or DfMA Studio Main Office (4 days per week minimum)
- Travel to project location and | or VBC Manufacturing location expected 4-6 times per year
About you
- Minimum bachelor’s degree in design, construction, or professional degree in Architecture required
- Engineering, Architecture, Interior Architecture and | or Construction experience required
- Licensed Architect preferred
- 8-12 Years of experience required
- DfMA (design for manufacturing and assembly) familiarity preferred
- AutoCAD and Revit proficiency required
- Microsoft Office Suite proficiency required
- Bluebeam Revu proficiency required
- Adobe Creative Suite proficiency preferred
- Must have basic knowledge of International Building Codes
- Must have a positive attitude and be able to function as part of a diverse team
- Must have good oral and written communication skills
- Must be detail-oriented and organized
- Must have the ability to meet deadlines
- Must be an independent problem-solver and appreciate a fast-paced work environment
