Job Title: Parks Steward

Department: Education

Reports To: Malia Henry

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Time Status: FTE

TS Range : 6/7 ($24.28)

SUMMARY: The Parks Steward helps ensure Skookum Park and local parks remain safe and enjoyable. This position will do routine site monitoring, park condition assessments, and communication with park users regarding rules, reservations, and responsible park use. They will also work with other departments to coordinate maintenance needs.

The Parks Steward serves as an active member of the Tu Ha' Buts Youth Center (TYC) team and supports youth activities in local parks. This role builds positive relationships with youth while helping maintain safe and respectful park environments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Visitor Experience & Park Presence (30%)

• Serve as a welcoming and visible presence within assigned park spaces.

• Provide information regarding park amenities, reservations, allowable uses, and safety expectations.

• Promote responsible and respectful use of park facilities.

Park Safety Monitoring & Compliance (25%)

• Conduct regular site inspections and park walk-throughs.

• Observe and document hazards, vandalism, unauthorized activities, and safety concerns.

• Monitor compliance with park rules, permits, and reservation requirements.

• Report violations and concerns through established procedures.

Site Stewardship & Condition Assessment (25%)

• Monitor cleanliness and overall condition of park facilities and grounds.

• Identify maintenance needs, illegal dumping, damage, or facility misuse.

• Submit timely reports and recommendations regarding repairs, improvements, and park enhancements.

• Support conservation and stewardship efforts that preserve park resources.

Youth Program Coordination & Support (20%)

• Collaborate with TYC staff and partners to offer park-based youth programming.

• Coordinate park access, site logistics, and scheduling needs.

• Prepare and assess program spaces before and after activities.

• Help ensure youth activities occur safely and in alignment with park rules and community expectations.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This role does not include any supervisory duties.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related field, OR an Associates Degree in a related field and 2 years of relevant experience, OR a High School Diploma/GED and 4 years of relevant experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and handle a variety of concrete variables in situations with minimal standardization. Ability to interpret a range of instructions provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule formats.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid Washington State Drivers License.
