Job Description
The Director of Facilities provides strategic leadership and hands-on support for the maintenance, operation, safety, security, and stewardship of Newman University's campus facilities and infrastructure. This highly collaborative role oversees facilities operations, campus security, capital projects, compliance initiatives, and emergency preparedness while actively contributing to maintenance activities when needed. The Director serves as a key operational leader dedicated to creating a safe, reliable, welcoming, and well-maintained environment that supports student success, residential life, and the University's mission.
What You'll Do:
- Lead the daily operation, maintenance, and improvement of campus buildings, grounds, and infrastructure, ensuring facilities remain safe, functional, and well-maintained.
- Develop and enhance preventive maintenance programs, oversee work order processes, and respond to operational challenges with a customer-focused approach.
- Ensure compliance with applicable safety, environmental, accessibility, and building regulations while managing risk reduction initiatives and life-safety systems.
- Provide leadership for campus security operations, including supervision of internal and contracted security personnel, access control procedures, incident response coordination, and emergency preparedness initiatives.
- Coordinate emergency planning, response, training, drills, and continuity efforts while serving as a liaison to external emergency responders and community partners.
- Lead or oversee capital projects, renovations, deferred maintenance initiatives, and long-range facilities planning efforts.
- Develop and manage facilities budgets, monitor expenditures, identify efficiencies, and support strategic resource planning.
- Manage contractor and vendor relationships, ensuring quality service, regulatory compliance, and alignment with University expectations.
- Hire, supervise, develop, and mentor facilities staff while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and service excellence.
- Partner with campus departments and senior leadership to provide operational guidance and support institutional goals.
- Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred; equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience will be considered.
- Progressive experience in facilities operations, building maintenance, construction, or related trades, including supervisory or leadership responsibilities.
- Working knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and general maintenance operations.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining exceptional customer service and operational effectiveness.
- Experience overseeing budgets, vendors, contractors, and capital improvement projects.
- Familiarity with safety programs, regulatory compliance, emergency preparedness, security operations, and risk management practices preferred.
- Experience in higher education, healthcare, hospitality, multi-building, or institutional environments is preferred.
- Valid driver's license, eligibility for university insurance coverage, legal authorization to work in the United States, and ability to successfully complete required background checks.
