The Pen and Paper Stationery Company is looking for a friendly, enthusiastic and reliable Retail Team Member to join our team in Cardiff.

We’re passionate about stationery, gifts, art and all the little things that make everyday life more creative. We’re looking for someone who enjoys working with people, takes pride in their surroundings and is happy getting stuck into a varied role where no two days are quite the same.

The Role

As a member of our retail team, you’ll play an important part in making sure our customers have a great experience in store. Your responsibilities will include:

Welcoming and serving customers in a friendly and knowledgeable manner

Providing product advice and helping customers find the perfect stationery, gift, card or writing instrument

Sharing your enthusiasm and knowledge of stationery, art and fine writing with customers

Operating the till and processing payments accurately

Receiving, checking and putting away deliveries

Picking, packing and managing customer and store orders

Replenishing stock and keeping displays looking their best

Keeping the shop floor, stockroom and other areas clean, tidy and well organised

Helping with merchandising and creating attractive product displays

Supporting the wider team with the day-to-day running of the store

Assisting with social media and other activities where required

Handling general customer enquiries and resolving issues in a helpful and professional way

About You

We’re looking for someone who is:

Friendly, approachable and confident when dealing with customers

Reliable, organised and able to manage a variety of tasks

A good communicator and positive team player

Comfortable working independently and taking initiative

Practical and happy with the physical side of receiving and moving deliveries

Attentive to detail, particularly when handling stock and orders

Someone who takes pride in keeping a shop looking great

Passionate about art, stationery or fine writing

Interested in pens, paper, drawing, illustration or design

An art background or good knowledge of pens and fine writing instruments is desirable, as is a genuine enthusiasm for the products we sell.

Previous retail experience is preferred, but we’re also interested in hearing from enthusiastic candidates who have the right attitude and a willingness to learn.

Skills & Experience

The following would be an advantage:

Experience using Shopify or other ecommerce/retail systems

Experience with design software

Experience creating or managing social media content

A background in art, illustration, design, stationery or a related field

Knowledge of fountain pens, inks and other fine writing products

The Position

Full-time
Initial fixed-term contract until 31 December, covering the Christmas period
Five 7-hour shifts per week
Immediate start

With the potential for the right candidate to join the team permanently following the fixed-term contract
