Description:

The Manager, Sustaining Engineering is responsible for the ongoing technical ownership, support, and continuous improvement of Hyper Solutions' released product portfolio. This role leads a multidisciplinary team focused on product reliability, manufacturing support, engineering change management, quality improvements, and field issue resolution throughout the product lifecycle.

Working closely with Product Management, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Customer Support teams, this leader will drive continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring our products continue to meet customer expectations, regulatory requirements, and business objectives.

This position serves as the primary engineering leader for post-release product support and lifecycle management activities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Sustaining Engineering & Product Lifecycle Management

  • Own the sustaining engineering function for released products throughout their lifecycle
  • Lead and develop a growing team of sustaining engineers supporting Hyper's expanding product portfolio
  • Manage engineering change requests (ECRs), engineering change orders (ECOs), deviations, and product modifications
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on product reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, quality, and cost optimization
  • Establish and maintain sustaining engineering processes, metrics, and best practices
  • Collaborate with New Product Introduction (NPI) teams to ensure smooth product transitions into production

Manufacturing & Operational Support

  • Partner with Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to resolve production issues and prevent recurrence
  • Support root cause investigations related to manufacturing nonconformances, field failures, and customer concerns
  • Identify and implement corrective and preventive actions that improve product performance and manufacturing efficiency
  • Maintain product documentation including bills of material (BOMs), drawings, schematics, assembly instructions, and test procedures
  • Support component substitutions, obsolescence management, and supplier-driven design changes

Customer & Field Support

  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective action efforts for customer-reported issues and field failures
  • Interface with customers, field service personnel, and internal stakeholders to diagnose and resolve technical issues
  • Drive resolution of product quality concerns while maintaining customer confidence and satisfaction
  • Support warranty and reliability improvement initiatives

Compliance & Continuous Improvement

  • Ensure sustained compliance with applicable UL standards, customer specifications, and internal quality requirements
  • Support audits, product certifications, and regulatory compliance activities as needed
  • Utilize structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D, A3, 5-Why, and Ishikawa analysis
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement across engineering and manufacturing operations
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • 7+ years of engineering experience within a manufacturing environment
  • 2+ years of leadership or people management experience with direct reports
  • Experience supporting released products through sustaining engineering, product engineering, manufacturing engineering, or related functions
  • Strong understanding of engineering change management processes including ECOs, ECRs, and document control
  • Experience conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills

Preferred

  • Experience with power distribution equipment including switchboards, PDUs, RPPs, UPS systems, switchgear, or related electrical infrastructure
  • Familiarity with UL 891, UL 1062, UL 67, or similar electrical product standards
  • Experience supporting products within data center, critical power, industrial electrical, or related industries
  • Experience with ERP and PLM systems such as NetSuite, Arena, or similar platforms
  • Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement training or certifications
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams

Compensation

The anticipated minimum hiring range for this role is $125,000 - $155,000 per year. Actual salary varies due to factors that may include but not be limited to relevant experience, skills, certifications, and location. This hire is eligible for discretionary bonus plus commission structure. Variable compensation may depend on various factors, such as individual and organizational performance.
