Job Description

Staff Software Engineer - Content Platform

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Software Engineer - Content Platform based in the United States.

This is a high-impact platform engineering role focused on the systems that power some of the most critical user experiences at massive internet scale. You will help design and evolve the core content infrastructure that supports feeds, posts, comments, voting, and other foundational product interactions used by hundreds of millions of users. The role sits within a high-performance infrastructure environment where reliability, latency, and scalability are mission-critical. You will work across deeply complex distributed systems as well as legacy monolithic architecture, shaping the next generation of platform capabilities. This position requires strong technical leadership and the ability to influence architectural direction across multiple engineering teams. You will collaborate closely with product, infrastructure, and storage teams to ensure consistency and performance across the stack. Your work will directly impact system resilience, developer velocity, and user experience at global scale.

Accountabilities:

Lead the design, evolution, and optimization of large-scale content platform systems that power core user experiences across a global product ecosystem.

  • Design, build, and optimize distributed systems focused on scalability, reliability, latency, and performance in high-traffic environments
  • Develop backend services primarily in Go (and sometimes Python), including system-level improvements and complex code modifications
  • Own and evolve the architecture of content platform services and legacy systems, ensuring long-term scalability and maintainability
  • Work within both modern microservices and legacy monolithic systems, improving stability and operational efficiency
  • Identify architectural gaps and lead redesign initiatives to improve developer velocity and system performance
  • Collaborate closely with infrastructure, product, storage, and ranking teams to integrate platform capabilities across services
  • Mentor and guide engineers, providing technical leadership, design reviews, and best practices across teams
  • Drive cross-functional alignment on technical decisions impacting core user journeys such as feeds, posts, comments, and engagement systems
Requirements:

Experienced senior technical leader with deep expertise in distributed systems, platform engineering, and large-scale backend architecture.

  • 7+ years of experience building large-scale distributed systems, platform services, or internet-scale backend systems
  • Strong programming experience in Go, Python, Java, or C++
  • Proven track record of technical leadership and influencing engineering direction across teams
  • Deep experience designing APIs, scalable services, and high-throughput backend systems
  • Ability to work effectively in complex systems involving both modern architectures and legacy codebases
  • Strong understanding of performance optimization, reliability engineering, and system scalability trade-offs
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across infrastructure and product teams
  • Experience with or interest in technologies such as Kubernetes, gRPC, Cassandra, TiDB, or Redis is a plus
  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
Benefits:
  • Competitive base salary ($217,000 – $303,900 USD)
  • Equity through restricted stock units (RSUs)
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) retirement plan with employer match
  • Flexible vacation policy and paid time off programs
  • Generous parental leave for all parents
  • Mental health, coaching, and employee assistance programs
  • Global benefits supporting caregiving, wellness, and professional development
  • Paid volunteer time off
  • Family planning and gender-affirming care support
  • Flexible, remote-friendly work environment (U.S.-based roles)
