COMMON LABORER - PUBLIC WORKS in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin at City of Wisconsin Dells

This position is mainly garbage collection mid-May through mid-September and a variety of other Public Work functions and duties as assigned the other months. Tentative hours are 4:00am to 12:00am on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and 6:00am to 2:00pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Possibility of some over-time including on weekends and holidays as needed. • Operates garbage truck.
• Collection of garbage containers.
• Cleans and provides routine inspection and preventive maintenance on vehicle and equipment.
• Respond to citizen questions at curbside.
• Assists with snow removal as needed.
• Assists with street repairs as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Wisconsin Driver’s license.
• Valid CDL Certification.

EQUIPMENT USED:

• Motorized vehicles including a Garbage Truck.
• Shovels and brooms.
• Hand tools such as hammers, wrenches and screwdrivers.
• Power tools including saws and sanders.
• Chainsaws.
• Material handling equipment
• Snow plow.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

• Skill in operation of some of the listed tools and equipment.
• Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time.
• Ability to work safely.
• Ability to set up proper basic work zone traffic control.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors and the public.
• Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
