OpenShift Systems Administrator

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a OpenShift Systems Administrator based in United States.

This role is responsible for the day-to-day administration, monitoring, and operational support of an enterprise Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization environment.
You will help maintain high levels of system availability, performance, security, and compliance across Linux and Windows infrastructure.
A key focus of the position is supporting virtual machine and workload migrations from VMware vSphere to OpenShift Virtualization.
You will collaborate closely with engineering and infrastructure teams to troubleshoot complex technical issues and improve system reliability.
The role combines systems administration, virtualization, automation, monitoring, security hardening, and infrastructure lifecycle management.
You will also contribute to operational efficiency through scripting, configuration management, and automation using tools such as Ansible.
This position offers hands-on exposure to modern virtualization technologies within an enterprise and highly regulated environment.

Accountabilities:
  • Administer and support enterprise RHEL and Windows operating systems across VMware vSphere and Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization environments.
  • Support the migration of virtual machines and workloads between virtualization platforms, including scheduled migration cutovers.
  • Monitor system health, availability, performance, logs, and alerts using enterprise monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, Nagios, or SolarWinds.
  • Manage user accounts, access controls, system configurations, security hardening, patching, updates, and firmware lifecycle activities.
  • Apply, maintain, and document security and compliance requirements, including STIGs, CIS benchmarks, SCAP, and DISA standards and tools.
  • Troubleshoot system performance, networking, storage, and infrastructure integration issues across complex virtualized environments.
  • Use Ansible and similar automation tools to streamline provisioning, configuration management, patching, and ongoing system administration.
  • Develop and maintain BASH, Python, or PowerShell scripts to automate repetitive administrative activities.
  • Partner with engineering and infrastructure teams to resolve complex issues and support system changes and improvements.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation covering system configurations, operational procedures, compliance requirements, and administrative activities.
  • Provide support during scheduled evening and weekend migration activities when required.
Requirements:
  • You have at least 5 years of systems administration experience in enterprise or government environments.
  • You have strong hands-on experience administering enterprise Linux, particularly RHEL, as well as Windows operating systems.
  • You have experience supporting virtualized environments involving VMware vSphere and Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization.
  • You have hands-on experience supporting virtual machine or workload migrations between virtualization technologies.
  • You are experienced with user administration, access controls, system hardening, patching, and infrastructure firmware lifecycle management.
  • You can troubleshoot complex performance, networking, storage, and infrastructure integration issues within virtualized environments.
  • You have experience with Ansible or comparable configuration management and automation technologies.
  • You have scripting experience with BASH, Python, or PowerShell and can use automation to improve operational efficiency.
  • You demonstrate strong troubleshooting, documentation, communication, and collaborative problem-solving skills.
  • You are willing and able to support scheduled evening and weekend migration cutovers when required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, along with the ability to obtain and maintain the required VA Public Trust background investigation.
  • Hands-on OpenShift Virtualization administration experience is highly desirable, as is experience migrating workloads from VMware vSphere to OpenShift Virtualization.
  • Experience with enterprise monitoring and logging tools, Federal Government or regulated environments, STIGs, CIS benchmarks, SCAP, DISA compliance tools, networking, enterprise storage, and infrastructure automation is an advantage.
  • Up to 10% travel may be required.
Benefits:
  • The position offers a base salary range of $110,000–$130,000 per year, with actual compensation determined by experience, skills, education, location, contract requirements, and business needs.
  • You will work hands-on with modern virtualization technologies while supporting a large-scale transition from VMware infrastructure to Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization.
