This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Market Strategist, Gas and Power based in the United States.

This is a high-impact market strategy role within a dynamic Gas & Power Trading environment, focused on turning complex market data into actionable commercial insights.
You will analyze and forecast North American natural gas fundamentals, including supply and demand, storage, pipeline flows, and regional pricing dynamics.
The role combines quantitative analysis, market modeling, and commercial judgment to directly inform trading and origination decisions.
You will collaborate with modeling and innovation specialists to develop market outlooks, analytical models, and visualizations across different time horizons.
You will also monitor weather, regulatory, infrastructure, and broader market developments that can materially influence energy markets.
The position offers significant exposure to traders, senior leadership, and strategic decision-making in a fast-paced energy environment.
Based in Houston with a hybrid office/remote setup, this role is ideal for an experienced energy-market professional who enjoys identifying patterns and turning analysis into clear action.

Accountabilities:
  • Monitor and forecast U.S. regional natural gas supply and demand balances, storage levels, pipeline flows, and regional price dynamics to identify emerging market opportunities and risks.
  • Analyze North American natural gas fundamentals and translate market movements into actionable insights for trading and origination teams.
  • Collaborate with the Fundamentals Modeling & Innovation team to develop, maintain, and improve analytical models and visualizations supporting both short- and long-term market outlooks.
  • Track weather patterns, regulatory developments, infrastructure changes, LNG activity, pipeline constraints, and other external factors that may affect regional gas markets and pricing.
  • Assess regional basis markets and key natural gas hubs, including the implications of Henry Hub dynamics, infrastructure constraints, and changing supply and demand conditions.
  • Apply statistical, mathematical, computational, and market-analysis techniques to large and complex datasets to identify trends, relationships, risks, and commercial opportunities.
  • Use data tools and visualization platforms to transform raw market information into clear, decision-ready analysis.
  • Deliver timely, data-backed insights that support commercial decisions, trading strategies, market positioning, and origination activities.
  • Present analytical findings and market views to senior leadership and contribute meaningfully to strategy and trading discussions.
  • Organize large volumes of information systematically while maintaining the ability to identify broader market patterns and understand their strategic implications.
  • Support continuous improvement of market analysis methods, data sourcing, cleansing, transformation, visualization, and modeling approaches.
  • Contribute to discussions around market risk, trading fundamentals, exposure management, macroeconomic developments, sentiment, and emerging trends.
  • Travel as required, with up to 10% travel expected for the role.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Finance, Mathematics, Economics, or a related discipline; equivalent professional experience may also be considered.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. natural gas market fundamentals, including regional basis markets, pipeline constraints, LNG exports, Henry Hub, storage, and supply/demand dynamics.
  • Demonstrated professional experience as a Market Analyst, Economist, Market Strategist, or in a closely related energy-market analytical role, ideally at a senior or seasoned level.
  • Strong proficiency with analytical and data tools such as Python, SQL, and Excel, together with data visualization platforms such as Power BI or Tableau.
  • Strong mathematical, statistical, computational, and market-modeling capabilities, with the ability to apply quantitative methods to real-world energy-market questions.
  • Proven ability to work with large volumes of information, organize complex datasets systematically, and identify the most important issues, patterns, and implications.
  • Strong analytical thinking and commercial judgment, with the ability to move beyond individual data points and understand the broader market picture.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex quantitative analysis into concise, clear, and actionable insights for both technical and commercial audiences.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced trading environment where priorities can shift quickly and decisions may need to be made using incomplete or evolving information.
  • Familiarity with data management, data sourcing, data cleansing and transformation, statistical analysis, market analysis methods, and data interpretation.
  • Knowledge of trading fundamentals, trade execution and management, market risk management, and exposure management is valuable.
  • Experience modeling U.S. Northeast or Western regional natural gas markets is a strong advantage.
  • Exposure to machine learning, computational thinking, macroeconomics, market sentiment, and emerging market trends is beneficial.
  • Strong continuous-learning mindset, agility, curiosity, and ability to collaborate across trading, modeling, and commercial teams.
Benefits
  • Hybrid office/remote working arrangement based in Houston, Texas.
  • Full-time employment within a highly analytical Gas & Power Trading environment.
  • Opportunity to work directly with trading and origination teams and influence commercial market decisions.
  • Exposure to North American natural gas markets, regional hubs, infrastructure, LNG, storage, weather, and regulatory developments.
  • Opportunity to work with advanced data, modeling, visualization, and computational tools including Python, SQL, Excel, Power BI, and Tableau.
  • Collaboration with specialists in fundamentals modeling and market innovation.
  • Direct exposure to senior leadership and strategic energy-market discussions.
  • Opportunity to develop deeper expertise across market strategy, trading fundamentals, risk, and energy economics.
  • Up to 10% travel associated with the role.
  • Relocation assistance may be negotiable for eligible candidates.
  • Compensation and additional benefits are determined by the hiring company and will be discussed during the recruitment process.
  • Equal opportunity and accessibility support throughout the recruitment process, subject to applicable policies and requirements.
  • Depending on the position and applicable policies, employment may be contingent on pre-placement screening, medical fitness review, and background checks.
