Summary/Objective: The Outside Field Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of broadband services at customer premises. This role involves traveling to customer locations, installing equipment, troubleshooting connectivity issues, and ensuring a high standard of service delivery.

Essential Job Functions: Specific duties include, but are not limited, to the following:

  • Installation: Install and test broadband equipment (modems, routers, cables) at customer locations, ensuring proper setup and configuration. Follow installation protocols and meet/exceed quality standards (low signal loss, high quality connections).
  • Maintenance and Repairs: Perform routine maintenance, troubleshoot, and repair broadband equipment and infrastructure.
  • Customer Interaction: Provide clear instructions and guidance to customers during installations and service calls with a professional, friendly presence. Educate the customer on how to use equipment/network.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety standards and protocols while performing fieldwork, including the use of appropriate safety gear.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate detailed records of installations, repairs, and customer interactions.
  • Technical Support: Collaborate with the technical support team to resolve escalated issues and provide on-site assistance as needed.
  • Travel: Travel to customer locations within the service area as required.
  • Available for occasional on call shifts: rotating on call shifts carrying phone and being prepared to act in situations involving outages.

Requirements:

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs., work in various environmental conditions, and perform physical tasks such as climbing ladders.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.?
  • Must be able to access and navigate the production facility.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification is a plus. OSHA 10 certification and CPR/First Aid training preferred
  • Experience: 1-2 years of experience as a field technician, preferably in the broadband or telecommunications industry with fiber optic cable splicing, installation, and repairs.
  • Skills: Strong technical skills, problem-solving ability, and customer service orientation. Experience using specialized tools and equipment for fiber optic installation; able to read and interpret blueprints to assist in repairs preferred. Detail-oriented
  • Licenses: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Must have experience with driving service trucks and utilizing tools and equipment.
  • A combination of experience and education may be considered in lieu of education requirements.
