ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Welds metal parts together, using both gas welding or brazing and any combination of arc welding processes, performs related tasks such as thermal cutting and grinding, repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes and increases size of metal parts, positions and clamps together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding. This worker may locate and repair cracks in industrial engine cylinder heads, using inspection equipment and gas torch, may perform repairs only and be required to pass employer performance tests or standard tests to meet certification standards of governmental agencies or professional and technical associations.
GENERAL DUTIES:
- Performs welding duties using MIG, Oxy-Acetylene and arc/stick welders.
- Proficiency in welding steel and aluminum essential. TIG welding proficiency may be required in some locations.
- May weld metal components together to fabricate or repair products, such as machine parts, plant equipment, range targets, mobile homes, motors, and generators, according to layouts, blueprints, or work orders, using brazing and a variety of arc and gas welding equipment.
- Requires knowledge of electric, gas, and other welding processes such as arc gouging, and the skill to apply these processes in prototype manufacturing, repairing, modifying, rebuilding, and assembling various types of metal and alloy parts, equipment, systems, and structures such as buildings and targets.
- Develops cost estimates and orders material based on project needs.
- Observes welding safety practices at all times.
Job Requirements:
OTHER DUTIES: Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor as necessary to support contract and mission support requirements in job-related areas. Performs other duties as assigned such as (but not limited to) general housekeeping of work areas, washing, and waxing of vehicles, inventory of parts and supplies, etc. May be required to handle hazardous material/hazardous waste. Will be required to operate government, leased or company owned vehicles.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Must have completed accredited vocational or military training in welding. Five (5) years commercial experience in the welding trade acceptable in lieu of formal training. May be required to be AWS certified in various types of welding techniques and materials. Must understand metals and their properties so the best combinations can be used to enhance the life of the final product. Required to be qualified in various types of welding techniques and materials. Functionality with computers and Microsoft products is required. May be required to hold a CDL.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a Secret security clearance. Candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. Supports E-OMS operational objectives. Observes company Quality, Safety, Environmental, Security and Administrative policies; supports Process Improvement.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work may be performed both inside and outside in hot and cold weather.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be capable of lifting or shifting heavy items to complete work. Eye protection must be worn. Required to use, maintain, and safeguard all personal protective equipment (PPE) issued. May be required to work with hazardous material and/or collect hazardous waste.
