Position OverviewThe Hatchery Lead supports the daily operations of the chick side of the hatchery and provides hands-on leadership to the team. This position helps coordinate production activities, supports employees, maintains quality and food safety standards, and addresses operational needs as they arise.
The Hatchery Lead works closely with Hatchery leadership, Maintenance, Quality Assurance, and Sanitation to keep operations running safely, efficiently, and according to Bell & Evans standards.
What You'll Do- Assist with the daily operations of the chick side of the hatchery.
- Provide hands-on leadership and direction to employees within the department.
- Assist with assigning and directing work to ensure production needs are met.
- Assist with training employees on department procedures, safety, quality, and production expectations.
- Monitor production activities and address issues or opportunities as they arise.
- Take a proactive role in immediately addressing safety, quality, or food safety concerns.
- Work closely with Maintenance to communicate equipment issues and coordinate repairs or projects.
- Work with Quality Assurance and Sanitation to maintain department standards and support department initiatives.
- Help ensure employees are following Bell & Evans policies, procedures, and work instructions.
- Communicate effectively with team members individually and in a group setting.
- Support Hatchery leadership with problem-solving and day-to-day operational needs.
- Perform tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
- Serve as a backup resource for the QA Supervisor as needed.
- Follow all food safety, animal welfare, safety, and company policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required.
- 1 to 3 years of hatchery experience preferred, but not required.
- Previous leadership or lead experience preferred.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Experience leading, training, or working effectively with a team.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment.
- Familiarity with safety rules, work instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong judgment when responding to safety, quality, and production concerns.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be comfortable standing, walking, bending, reaching, and performing other physical tasks required to successfully complete the job.
- Comfortable working in a production environment and performing hands-on duties as needed.
The Hatchery Lead plays an important role in maintaining Bell & Evans food safety and quality standards. This position is expected to immediately identify and address safety or quality concerns and take appropriate action to help ensure safe, quality products are produced.
The Hatchery Lead also serves as a backup resource for the QA Supervisor when needed.
