Job Description
SUMMARY
The Safety Training Specialist is responsible for promoting a culture of safety and ensuring independent contractor drivers operate in a manner that protects themselves and others. This role monitors driver performance through telematics, provides coaching and training to improve safety and compliance, develops driver education programs, and partners with operations to reduce risk and prevent accidents. The position also supports driver recognition initiatives and serves as the subject matter expert for telematics and safety technology.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Establish rapport with independent contractor drivers operating under Warren Transport authority.
- Responsible for Lytx telematics program including coaching, feedback, and reporting. Support strategy discussion and provide possible feedback from drivers. Review Lytx videos, data and behavior trends daily.
- Establish and monitor the device health program, ensuring functionality as well as camera operational performance.
- Facilitate driver training in safety operation, telematics, securement, and FMCSA regulations and company policies.
- Produce training materials to meet the needs of the operating teams through LUMA.
- Build and manage training content according to safety trends.
- Complete post-classroom virtual and in-person training with drivers.
- Facilitate driver recognition programs, Lytx recognition, Driver of the Month, safe driving awards.
- Support Securement programs and manage open deck class rank.
- Serve as the subject matter expert on speed control alerts, dash cam triggers, and event reporting, including accident mitigation technology.
- Align decisions, behaviors, and performance with Warren Transport values and expectations.
- Complete work responsibilities outside of normal business hours as needed and infrequent travel may be required.
- Performs other duties, tasks, or responsibilities as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or GED and 2-4 years of experience in driver training/facilitation or an equivalent experience.
- A current or past class A CDL with driving experience preferred for experiential insight.
- Strong knowledge of Department of Transportation compliance regulations
- Proficient knowledge, quick learning, proper commercial driving techniques
- Strong interpersonal skills; able to establish trust and rapport with drivers/contractors.
- Strong teaching/presentation skills; able to articulate expectations and engage in active listening.
- Must be able to demonstrate a proactive commitment to Warren corporate values and the success of all staff.
- Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)

- Alternates between sitting in a stationary position and moving throughout the work area as needed
- Must be able to participate in securement training for new drivers: bending, lifting up to 50 lbs., being on feet for 3 hour training, climbing in and out of trucks, working outside in all weather elements.
- Constantly operate a keyboard and mouse and constantly utilize a computer monitor(s).
- Constantly conversing with internal and external customers in person or via a phone system.
The essential functions of the role depend on in-person oversight, coaching, and real-time collaboration with management and operations staff. Remote work would remove the employee from direct supervision and eliminate the immediate coaching, escalation support, and call monitoring that the position requires. Because these functions are essential to the role, and remote work would not allow the employee to perform them effectively, working from home is not a reasonable or effective accommodation.
