Lifestyle Writer, Better Homes & Gardens

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Lifestyle Writer, Better Homes & Gardens based in the United States.

This remote contract role is an opportunity to create timely, engaging lifestyle content for a widely read home and living audience.
You will focus on home design, décor, housekeeping, and related lifestyle topics, with an emphasis on content optimized for newsletters.
The role combines strong writing and editing skills with digital research, trend awareness, and an understanding of audience needs.
You will work directly in a content management system and contribute polished, publication-ready copy in an established editorial voice.
Success requires accuracy, efficiency, independence, and the ability to respond quickly to timely stories and emerging topics.
The position offers a flexible remote environment while requiring consistent morning availability in the Eastern or Central Time Zone.
It is well suited to a writer or editor passionate about home and lifestyle media who enjoys producing useful, timely content at scale.

Accountabilities
  • Write timely, engaging, and newsletter-optimized content covering home design, décor, housekeeping, and related lifestyle topics.

  • Research emerging trends, news, ideas, and developments relevant to home and lifestyle audiences.

  • Use internet research effectively and create and monitor Google Alerts to identify timely content opportunities.

  • Produce accurate, polished copy that aligns with established editorial standards, style guidelines, and brand voice.

  • Work within the content management system to prepare and submit articles and other editorial content for publication.

  • Adapt writing style and approach to suit newsletter audiences and current editorial priorities.

  • Meet weekly production expectations of approximately 20 hours while maintaining consistent quality and accuracy.

  • Work independently in a remote environment, managing deadlines and editorial assignments efficiently.

  • Collaborate with editorial stakeholders as needed while remaining responsive to changing content priorities.

Requirements
  • At least 2 years of professional writing or editing experience in home, lifestyle, design, décor, housekeeping, or a closely related media field.

  • Experience working for a news publication, magazine, digital publisher, or similar editorial environment is preferred.

  • Journalism experience is strongly preferred.

  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to consistently adopt an established editorial voice and follow detailed style guidelines.

  • Excellent research skills and comfort using online sources to identify timely and reliable information.

  • Experience creating and tracking Google Alerts or similar tools for monitoring news and emerging topics.

  • Familiarity with content management systems and digital publishing workflows.

  • Strong attention to detail and a demonstrated ability to work efficiently, independently, and accurately.

  • Ability to manage deadlines and changing priorities while maintaining high editorial standards.

  • Genuine interest in home design, décor, housekeeping, and broader lifestyle topics.

  • Comfortable working remotely with limited direct supervision.

  • Availability during the morning in either the Eastern or Central Time Zone.

  • Applicants must be based in the United States.

  • Reliable access to a computer (not a tablet), smartphone, and secure internet connection.
