Job Description

Senior Contract CMM Programmer / Metrology Specialist
C-Motive Technologies
Middleton, WI

Reports to: Director of Quality
Compensation: Based on experience and project scope
Contract / Project-Based

The Opportunity
C-Motive Technologies develops innovative electrostatic motor technology. We are looking for a self-directed CMM programmer to develop, validate, and standardize dimensional inspection programs for tight-tolerance mechanical components. This contractor will help build repeatable, production-ready inspection capabilities while working closely with Quality and Engineering.

Equipment: Hexagon GLOBAL S 7.10.7 | Software: PolyWorks Inspector | Methods: Touch probing & scanning

Key Responsibilities
• Develop, debug, validate, and optimize automated CMM programs in PolyWorks Inspector for prototype, first article, incoming, in-process, and final inspection.
• Interpret engineering drawings and ASME Y14.5 GD&T; establish datum alignments, coordinate systems, measurement sequences, probing and scanning strategies.
• Determine appropriate measurement strategies based on part geometry, tolerances, accessibility, and equipment capabilities, including recommendations for fixturing, probe selection, and alternative inspection methods as needed.
• Generate clear dimensional reports showing conformance to engineering requirements; investigate unexpected results and distinguish part variation from measurement issues.
• Partner with Quality and Engineering to resolve drawing or inspection concerns, support dimensional nonconformance investigations, and improve inspection efficiency.
• Document program setup and validation, standardize file/report formats, and transfer knowledge so internal Quality staff can run and maintain completed programs.

Required Qualifications
• Hands-on experience programming and troubleshooting automated CNC/DCC CMMs using PolyWorks Inspector; not solely portable-arm measurement or reporting experience.
• Experience inspecting tight-tolerance machined parts and precision mechanical assemblies.
• Strong GD&T and drawing interpretation skills, including datums, alignments, feature evaluation, and geometric tolerances.
• Ability to program from 3D CAD/STEP models and drawings using touch probing and scanning, with sound probe-selection practices.
• Ability to independently validate programs, assess accuracy and repeatability, troubleshoot suspect measurements, and communicate technical findings clearly.

Preferred Qualifications
• Hexagon GLOBAL / GLOBAL S CMM experience and familiarity with PolyWorks integration to automated CMMs.
• Experience with scanning probes, automated stylus changers, complex measurement strategies, and inspection fixturing.
• Familiarity with Measurement System Analysis (MSA) / GR&R, measurement uncertainty, first article inspection, ISO 9001 environments, and inspection process standardization.

Contract Deliverables
• Validated, production-usable PolyWorks programs and matching dimensional inspection report templates for assigned parts.
• Documented setup, measurement strategies, program files, and recommendations for fixturing or probes.
• Efficient, repeatable routines plus handoff and knowledge transfer to C-Motive Quality personnel.

What Success Looks Like
Programs accurately evaluate engineering requirements, produce trustworthy and repeatable results, and can be operated and maintained by C-Motive personnel. The successful contractor identifies measurement limitations rather than reporting misleading results and works independently in a growing manufacturing environment.

Interested candidates should prepare by having a summary of their PolyWorks programming experience, CMM equipment experience, and examples of relevant dimensional inspection projects.
