Position Overview

Under the leadership of the Equipment Manager, the Assistant Equipment Manager supports the maintenance, diagnosis, repair, and overall management of the golf course maintenance equipment fleet. This position plays a key role in ensuring all equipment is maintained to the highest standards of safety, reliability, efficiency, and performance.

The Assistant Equipment Manager will work both independently and collaboratively with the equipment maintenance team to support daily operations and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. This individual will assist with preventive maintenance programs, equipment inspections, troubleshooting, repairs, and recordkeeping while helping ensure equipment is prepared and available to meet the demands of the golf course maintenance operation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Communicate equipment maintenance and repair needs with the Equipment Manager and Superintendents.Inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and engine-related issues on golf course maintenance equipment.Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled service on all equipment.Prioritize repair and maintenance tasks to maximize equipment availability and minimize downtime.Set up, modify, and prepare new equipment as needed.Repair and adjust gasoline, diesel, and electric-powered equipment.Maintain and adjust cutting units, reels, and mowing equipment to ensure optimal turf quality.Keep equipment fueled, lubricated, cleaned, and properly inspected.Assist with daily equipment inspections and documentation.Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records.Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment.Assist in maintaining an organized parts inventory and ordering system.Ensure proper recycling and disposal of oils, filters, antifreeze, batteries, and other shop materials.Follow all safety procedures and promote a culture of workplace safety.

Qualifications and Employment Standards

Working knowledge of gasoline, diesel, and electric-powered equipment maintenance and repair.Strong understanding of preventative maintenance practices.Knowledge of hydraulic systems, electrical systems, welding, fabrication, and reel grinding is preferred.Familiarity with golf course maintenance equipment is preferred but not required for the right candidate.Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical failures efficiently and accurately.Mechanical aptitude and proficiency with common shop tools and equipment.Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic computer applications.Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with staff and vendors.Ability to lift and move heavy equipment parts and materials.Ability to work in various weather conditions when necessary.
