Job Summary:
The Verifications Specialist I is responsible for conducting and processing employment, education, professional license, certification, reference, and other verification services in support of background screening orders. This role serves as a key liaison between employers, educational institutions, licensing agencies, applicants, clients, and internal teams to obtain accurate and complete verification information. Additionally, verifications may be conducted in accordance with customized verifications such as Don’t Pass The Trash (DPTT) verifications.
The Verifications Specialist I manages a high-volume workload while maintaining quality, compliance, and service level expectations. Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, effective communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate is customer-focused, highly organized, and committed to delivering accurate and timely results while providing an exceptional client and applicant experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process employment, education, professional license, certification, reference, and custom verification orders in accordance with company procedures and client requirements.
- Conduct outbound and inbound communications via phone, email, fax, web portals, and other methods to obtain verification information.
- Manage assigned work queues and prioritize orders to ensure service level agreements (SLAs) and turnaround time objectives are met.
- Review verification requests for completeness and identify missing information required to initiate or complete the verification process.
- Accurately document all research, communications, attempts, and verification results within company systems.
- Analyze information received from verification sources and compare it against applicant-provided information to identify discrepancies.
- Follow established quality assurance standards to ensure information is accurate, complete, and reportable.
- Escalate complex verification issues, discrepancies, or compliance concerns to appropriate leadership.
- Maintain compliance with FCRA requirements, client-specific requirements, and company policies.
- Communicate professionally and effectively with employers, educational institutions, licensing agencies, applicants, clients, and other third parties.
- Proactively follow up on outstanding requests to minimize delays and improve order completion timelines.
- Assist with special projects, process improvements, and departmental initiatives as assigned.
- Collaborate with teammates and cross-functional departments to resolve issues and achieve operational goals.
- Meet or exceed established productivity, quality, and service performance metrics.
- Stay current on verification procedures, industry trends, and internal process updates.
Education/Experience:
Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum one (1) year of experience in an administrative, customer service, data entry, research, or operations-related role.
Preferred:
- Previous experience in background screening, verifications, human resources, recruiting, education records, credentialing, or related industries.
- Experience conducting employment and education verifications.
- Experience working in a high-volume production environment with service-level expectations.

Physical Requirements:
- Must have a dedicated and ergonomic workspace at home conducive to focused work.
- Access to a stable and reliable high-speed internet connection.
- Adequate lighting and minimal background noise to support professional video calls and meetings.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 5 pounds occasionally, for tasks such as setting up a workstation or equipment.
