POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:
This is a full-time, Classified, CWA position, and hours of work and days are determined by the supervisor. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. This is a 40-hour workweek position.

Job Summary:
Under the direction of a Supervisor or the Associate Director, takes the lead in supervising a group of employees engaged in the cleaning and general maintenance of offices and furniture, managing event setups and inventory, and performing minor repairs to buildings; does other related duties.
Examples of Duties
Major Responsibilities:
- Inspects and determines the cleaning, maintenance and minor repair work required and the equipment, materials and supplies needed.
- Assist with developing work plans for cleaning and maintenance work and effective work methods. Reinforces the importance of safe and effective work practices and a positive work environment.
- Assist with planning, organizing and assigning the work of the unit and employee performance and conduct, enabling the effective recommendation of the hiring, firing, promoting and disciplining of subordinates.
- Provides assignments to Senior Building Maintenance Workers and other employees engaged in cleaning and maintenance work and setup or breakdown of college events; supervise the performance & completion of routine, overtime, scheduled and work order related cleaning & maintenance work.
- Supervise and assist in cleaning and maintenance of desks, chairs, rugs, lighting fixtures, windows, other furniture, fixtures, floors, walls, bathrooms and all general cleaning of building interiors.
- Supervise and assist in the cleaning and washing of windows, doors and other glass areas.
- Supervise and assist in sweeping, washing, and stripping floors and in applying wax and polish to wooden, linoleum, and composition floors. Assist in training subordinates as required to perform these tasks.
- Assist with inspections of buildings, offices, and other rooms to note hazards and other significant conditions and sees that needed work is completed. Files reports as needed, submits work requests and ensures their timely completion.
- Obtains, safeguards, distributes, inventories and supervises the use of cleaning and general maintenance equipment, materials, and supplies. Ensures all work is performed in a safe manner using proper PPE.
- Assist with the management of overtime. May be required to work overtime and assist with snow and ice removal operations.
- Prepares and maintains records of personnel, time, equipment, materials, supplies, and work completed.
- Ensure subordinates’ work hours are accurately submitted within required deadlines and payroll is distributed to respective employees appropriately.
- Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
- Safeguards the confidentiality of college personnel records, files, fiscal data, correspondence and similar confidential materials.
Knowledge & Abilities:
- Knowledge of the methods and materials used in cleaning and maintenance of desks, chairs, rugs, lighting fixtures, windows, floors, and other furniture and fixtures in buildings.
- Ability to provide assignments to employees doing cleaning and maintenance work, and to supervise their work.
- Ability to supervise and lead the work involved in the cleaning and maintenance of desks, chairs, rugs, lighting fixtures, windows, and other furniture and fixtures; the sweeping and washing of floors; in applying waxes and polish to wood, linoleum, or composition floors.
- Ability to prepare and maintain records of work in progress, work completed, personnel, materials used, and time.
- Ability to requisition, store, and supervise the use of equipment and materials.
- Ability to learn and use various computer applications, electronic and manual recording and control systems.
- Ability to work weekends, rotating shifts and overtime.
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.

Experience:
Two (2) years of general housekeeping experience, one (1) year of which shall include varied supervisory experience connected with housekeeping, sanitation and maintenance services.
License:
Appointee will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey to perform the essential duties of the position.
