The Litigation Adjuster I works under the supervision of litigation management to manage claim files, direct defense attorneys on first- or third-party lawsuits, and achieve the successful resolution of claims. This position also assists and resolves complex claim files as needed, negotiates and settles claims, and analyzes/evaluates coverage issues.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Handle complex property, liability, and unusual claims.
- Oversee the timely disposition of litigated claims.
- Develop an appropriate initial litigation plan with defense counsel.
- Control first- or third-party defense costs in accordance with Legal Department directives.
- Pay legal bills on assigned claim files and review/resolve attorney billing issues.
- Monitor assigned lawsuits to conclusion and keep claims files organized and up to date.
- Follow up on all additional investigation, discovery, and the production of related documents.
- Negotiate and settle claims.
- Attend mediations, arbitrations, and trials as needed.
- Analyze and evaluate insurance policy coverage questions and claims.
- Present high-level summaries of litigated files to an executive audience.

EDUCATION
Bachelor’s Degree or higher required.
Equivalent experience may substitute for minimum educational requirements. Equivalent experience may include five (5) years of relevant experience.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum of three (3) years of relevant insurance claims or legal work experience required.
CERTIFICATIONS
N/A
LICENSES
Florida All-Lines Adjuster License required.
Valid Driver’s License required.
