Job Description

Software Business Development Lead

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Software Business Development Lead based in Canada.

In this role, you will help drive business growth by connecting organizations with innovative, AI-powered software delivery solutions. You will lead prospecting and outreach efforts, engage business decision-makers, and identify opportunities where technology can solve meaningful operational challenges. Working with mid-to-large organizations across industries such as financial services, healthcare, energy, logistics, and the public sector, you will uncover business needs and qualify promising projects. You will introduce prospects to a structured Planning Sprint designed to define project scope, budgets, and timelines before software development begins. This position combines B2B business development, consultative discovery, and a practical understanding of software delivery in a fast-evolving AI landscape. You will also help refine sales messaging and campaigns by translating real buyer conversations into actionable insights. The role is ideal for someone who enjoys building relationships, working independently, and using modern AI tools to improve productivity and business outcomes.

Accountabilities
  • Research and identify prospects: Build targeted prospect lists using LinkedIn Sales Navigator, referrals, and warm introductions through shared professional connections.

  • Lead outbound outreach: Initiate and manage prospecting activities across LinkedIn, email, and phone to connect with relevant business decision-makers.

  • Conduct discovery conversations: Engage product, operations, customer experience, marketing, and IT leaders in thoughtful discussions about their software needs, use of AI, operational challenges, and opportunities for improvement.

  • Qualify business opportunities: Assess prospects based on project needs, budget ownership, timing, organizational fit, and readiness to engage in a paid Planning Sprint, then schedule qualified meetings.

  • Maintain accurate CRM records: Document every conversation with relevant details, including the prospect's role, industry, challenges, expressed needs, exact language, and level of interest.

  • Improve sales messaging: Share insights from prospect conversations to help refine positioning, messaging, and outreach strategies based on how buyers describe their needs.

  • Contribute to outbound campaigns: Collaborate with the team to develop and improve prospecting campaigns using feedback gathered from the market.

  • Support early-stage pipeline development: Build a consistent flow of qualified opportunities and help generate initial Planning Sprint engagements.

  • Apply AI tools effectively: Use AI-powered tools to streamline research, communication, and daily workflows while reviewing and refining generated content for accuracy and quality.

  • Build credibility with business and technical stakeholders: Use knowledge of software development and delivery processes to establish trust and communicate the value of managed software services.

Requirements:

  • Practical experience within or around the software development lifecycle, such as software development, quality assurance, business analysis, product ownership, project management, or technical account management.

  • Demonstrated experience in B2B sales or business development, particularly outbound prospecting, meeting generation, and lead qualification.

  • Experience selling software or professional services to business decision-makers, preferably non-technical stakeholders.

  • Regular use of modern AI tools to improve productivity, with the critical judgment to validate, edit, and improve AI-generated outputs rather than relying on them without review.

  • Excellent written and spoken business English, with the ability to communicate clearly, confidently, and naturally in professional conversations.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to understand business challenges, recognize opportunities, and assess prospect fit.

  • Excellent relationship-building, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to maintain consistent outreach activity, manage multiple prospects, document interactions accurately, and work independently toward measurable goals.

  • Availability to work during regular Pacific Time (PT) business hours, including occasional evening meetings when required.

  • Must reside in Canada and be legally eligible to work in Canada.

  • Preferred qualifications: Experience selling into regulated industries, consulting or agency services sales, or an established professional network in Vancouver or elsewhere in Canada.

  • Willingness to undergo a background check as part of the employment process.

Benefits:

  • Annual salary: CAD $65,000–$80,000, depending on experience and qualifications.

  • Performance-based commission: Additional earnings tied to qualified meetings and successfully closed Planning Sprint engagements.

  • Flexible work arrangements: Hybrid work in Vancouver or remote work from elsewhere in Canada.

  • Health benefits: Health Spending Account to help cover eligible healthcare expenses.

  • Insurance coverage: Disability insurance and life insurance.

  • Paid time off: Paid leave to support rest and work-life balance.

  • Full-time, permanent employment: A Monday-to-Friday schedule with working hours aligned to Pacific Time business hours.

  • AI-focused work environment: Opportunities to use modern AI tools and contribute to the evolution of AI-powered software delivery.

  • Professional growth: Exposure to consultative B2B sales, software development, product discovery, and business challenges across multiple industries.

  • Inclusive workplace: An equal-opportunity environment that values diverse backgrounds, skills, and experiences, with accommodations available throughout the hiring process.
