Job Description
True North Fleet Services is hiring a Senior Accountant to own key parts of the monthly close across our operating companies. The role reconciles the balance sheet, reviews operating company P&Ls, and works closely with operations leaders and our offshore accounting team. It will also support the integration of newly acquired entities onto our accounting processes and systems.
Key responsibilities
Month-end close

• Manage assigned close tasks to the close calendar and help keep the close on schedule.
• Find and fix close bottlenecks; document and improve close procedures.
Balance sheet reconciliations
• Prepare and review monthly reconciliations for cash, AR, fixed assets, accrued liabilities, clearing accounts and intercompany balances.
• Research and resolve reconciling items promptly and escalate aged or unusual balances.
• Keep reconciliations complete, supported and ready for audit.
P&L reviews of operating companies
• Review monthly P&Ls for each operating company against budget, forecast and prior periods.
• Explain significant variances and trace them to their business drivers.
• Present results and findings to the Controller and operating company leaders.
Collaboration with operations
• Partner with operations managers to understand activity behind the numbers, such as revenue, labor, parts and equipment costs.
• Answer operations' accounting questions and help them read their financial results.
• Make sure operational transactions are captured and coded correctly.
Offshore team coordination
• Assign, review and approve work from the offshore accounting team, including reconciliations, journal entries and AP/AR support.
• Write clear instructions and process documentation to support handoffs across time zones.
• Give feedback and training to improve quality and turnaround.
Acquisition integration
• Bring acquired entities onto company close, reconciliation and reporting processes.
• Find gaps in the acquired entity's controls and processes and fix them.
• Support purchase accounting and due diligence requests as needed.
Qualifications
Required
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, including ownership of month-end close and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP.
• Experience reviewing P&Ls and explaining variances to non-accounting stakeholders.
• Advanced Excel skills (lookups, pivot tables) and experience with an ERP or general ledger system.
Preferred
• CPA, or progress toward one.
• Multi-entity accounting experience, including intercompany and consolidations.
• Experience integrating an acquired business or migrating to a new accounting system.
• Experience directing or reviewing work from an offshore or outsourced accounting team.
• Background in multi-location service businesses.
Skills and competencies
• Ownership: takes full responsibility for deadlines and the accuracy of their accounts.
• Analytical judgment: turns numbers into clear explanations of what happened and why.
• Communication: explains accounting simply to operations and writes clear instructions for remote teammates.
• Process improvement: spots manual or repetitive work and makes it simpler, more standard or automated.
• Adaptability: handles shifting priorities during close and integration projects.
• Attention to detail: catches errors before they reach the financial statements.
