Position Summary
Backwaiters play an essential role in maintaining the precision and flow that define service at Hestia. Through awareness, anticipation, and disciplined execution, they support every stage of the dining experience with composure and exacting attention to detail. This role demands a strong sense of urgency and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Reports to the General Manager.
Job Responsibilities
- Support Captains by maintaining clean, precisely set, and fully prepared tables throughout every stage of service.
- Anticipate the needs of guests and teammates—resetting tables, refilling water, clearing plates, and running food with precision and a strong sense of urgency.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and stock levels throughout the dining room and service stations to an exacting standard.
- Carry and handle glassware, china, silverware, and service equipment safely, efficiently, and with attention to detail.
- Communicate clearly and work collaboratively with Captains, Bartenders, Hosts, kitchen teams, managers, and teammates.
- Continuously expand your knowledge of Hestia's food, beverage, and wine menus.
- Adapt to changing priorities while maintaining composure in a fast-paced environment.
- Complete all required education and assessments.
- Represent Hestia with warmth, professionalism, composure, and genuine care.
Qualifications
- Restaurant or hospitality experience preferred.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a disciplined, team-first mindset.
- Ability to anticipate needs and adapt quickly while maintaining composure under pressure.
- Ability to remain organized and efficient in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to lift and carry trays, bus tubs, and other restaurant equipment safely.
- Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout each shift.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
- Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, and repetitive motion.
- Ability to work safely around hot surfaces, sharp objects, and wet floors.
