POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Staff Accountant

REPORTS TO: Controller

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

FT / PT STATUS: Full Time

LOCATION: Office

SUMMARY

Prepare and maintain financial records to track organization assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities and other related financial activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure adherence to the accounting/finance/payroll department quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures
  • Communicate from time to time with other departments and/or divisions of the Company in support of their overall goals and objectives.
  • Respond to inquiries and provide data analysis as requested from a multitude of departments.
  • Participate and support accounting close cycles including reconciliations and ad hoc analysis
  • Codes invoices, sets up new accounts, reconciles accounts, and closes the monthly books.
  • Develop, maintain, and analyze budgets, preparing periodic reports that compare to budgeted costs to actual costs
  • Verifies and/or completes payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
  • Reconciles bank accounts at least monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks.
  • Reconciles cash disbursement accounts, payroll, customer accounts, and other financial accounts; manages accounts receivable collections. Support internal and external audit procedures and practices
  • Work with Purchasing department to ensure accuracy in posting dates and codes
  • Manage fixed assets including accumulation of cost for CAPEX projects and monthly depreciation
  • Oversea special projects from time to time as directed by the Controller and or the Chief Financial Officer.
  • Assist in maintaining and monitoring the systems of controls which verify the integrity of all systems, processes, and data.
  • Files tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies
  • Coordinates with software vendor to maintain accounting software systems; recommends updates to enhance the accounting software.
  • Maintain knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

  • None

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & ATTRIBUTES

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
  • Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Ability to correctly prepare tax reports.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, and accounting software.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance with 2+ years related experience preferred

WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Most work performed in office environment
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull up to 15 lbs infrequently
  • May have to climb stairs and ladders
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
