Position Description: Under the general direction and supervision of the Chief Accreditation Officer | Director of Financial Aid this position counsels, reviews, awards, and disburses financial aid to students in accordance with all policies, laws, and regulations. Position Responsibilities: 15.00% - Provide advising throughout the financial aid process to prospective, new and current students and their families. Must have a thorough knowledge of available types of financial aid, institutional scholarships and general student eligibility criteria. 20.00% - Must learn and be familiar with all Title IV regulations of the Higher Education Act including those contained in the ED Student Financial Assistance Handbooks, the Cash Management Blue Book, Direct Loan School Guides, Dear Colleague Letters, Federal Registers, and other Department of Education publications. Must also be familiar with and understand the Department of Education website and related websites including the COD (Common Origination and Disbursement) website, NSLDS (National Student Loan Database) website, and the FAA Access (Central Processing) website to process federal aid. 15.00% - Exercises independent judgment and participates in the management and operation of the financial aid process including reviewing financial aid applications, verifying accuracy of the application and supporting documentation, and ensuring all eligibility requirements are met to be awarded aid. This requires knowledge of not only federal financial aid regulations but IRS tax laws and how they relate to federal financial aid. This requires working with partners across campus to award and administer institutional scholarship. Transmittals of financial aid funds to student accounts. Oversees other preliminary aspects of the financial aid process performed by the Financial Aid Processors. 15.00% - Provides oversight and is primary contact for special programs (e.g. KS Promise, Second Change Pell). 15.00% - Processes Federal Direct Student Loans and Alternative Educational Loans. 5.00% - Performs other duties as needed or assigned. 10.00% - Performs Return to Title IV calculations as required. 5.00% - Maintains and handles all institutional and third party scholarship processing. Expectations: Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment. Ability to provide excellent service to students. Ability to interpret complex financial aid regulations and apply appropriately in different situations. Strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to use sound judgment for decision-making. Proficiency in technology and the systems used to determine students' eligibility and originate financial aid awards. (Banner, NSLDS, COD, CPS, Campus Logic, MS Word, Excel, etc) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience - Six months to two years of similar or related experience. Education - A Bachelor's degree.
Interpersonal Skills - A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or can be of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary. Other Skills - Bachelor's degree; six months to two year's financial aid experience is required; additional experience preferred. Knowledge of business management and accounting desired. Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills are necessary. Ability to maintain confidential information in a professional manner is required. Working knowledge of spreadsheets, word processing software, Microsoft Office, and other related products. Physical Requirements: Job may require lifting light weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping. Occasionally lift average weight objects (1 to 10 pounds). Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office or classroom. Wages/Other:
