Description:

The Chemical Technician (CT) carries out the day-to-day operational control to produce Sorona pellets. These polymer

pellets are the result of a team of CTs and process engineers working together to manage the production from the

mixing of essential ingredients to creating a monomer to a finished polymer product that is cut into pellets. The CT has

two primary assignments: Field and Control Panel operations. Our customers convert our pellets into carpet fibers and

fabrics for a wide array of end uses.

• Working with pumps, valves, and other mechanical equipment to maintain the standard operating conditions.

• Maintain control of the conversion of intermediates through monomerization, pre-polymerization and finishing into molten

polymer for pellet production.

• Maintain control of multiple utility systems to support the operation areas.

• Troubleshooting using field readings, panel display information and process understanding.

• Monitors control information for an area and adjusts as necessary to operate equipment and facilities, ensuring quality and

conformance with standard operating procedures and standard operating conditions.

• Always maintains safety standards and initiates and follows emergency procedures when necessary.

Requirements:

Minimum Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):

• High school diploma/GED and 3 years of experience in a similar mechanical/chemical manufacturing process or

• High school diploma/GED and College level Math, Physics (Process), Blueprints, and Chemistry or

• High school diploma/GED and an associate degree

• Valid driver’s license

• Must be willing and able to work rotating shifts, holidays, weekends, including required overtime

• Must be able to lift and move objects that weigh up to 50 lbs., move drums weighing up to 700 pounds with Stevedore truck

and exert up to 75 pounds pull, (with or without accommodation)

• Must be willing and able to work on elevated surfaces climbing open vertical ladders to reach them

• Must be able to operate forklifts; licensing issued by facility

• Must wear protective equipment for extended periods such as hard hats, goggles, gloves, ear plugs, hot suits, SCBA, etc.

• Work around hot surfaces and high temperatures

• Work with hazardous materials

• Work alone and in isolated areas

• Must be able to work with hand tools

• Must be able to work in a factory setting

• Must be able to work in a multi-ethnic, multi -cultural setting

• Must be willing and able to work in a Team environment

• Must be proficient on a computer, i.e., Word & Excel

• Must have strong communication skills

• Must work at a tobacco free site

• Must pass fitness for duty screening

Preferred (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):

• Associate of Applied Sciences degree or greater

• Three years of manufacturing experience in a chemical/pharma environment

• Transcribe information legibly and accurately.

• Convey ideas, facts, etc. both verbally and in writing so they can be understood.

• Train others

• Improve one's own skills and capability

• Work with minimum supervisory direction

• Lead groups and/or individuals

• Follow verbal or written instructions

• Adapt to new and changing conditions

• Analyze problems and situations

• Make logical decisions

• Work simple algebraic equations

• Read graphs and charts

• Trace piping and control loop systems

• Have knowledge of:

? liquid and gas flow

? control loop instrumentation

? catalysts and chemical reactions

• NCRC certification or ACT Work Keys test results in applied math, graphic literacy, and workplace documents from a

community college
