Job Description

Job Summary:

The Occupational Therapist is responsible for the implementation of the physician's order for occupational therapy services. The Occupational Therapist should provide all necessary aspects of occupational therapy within an interdisciplinary environment in order to facilitate the return of the patient to as independent and safe lifestyle as possible. The Occupational Therapist must utilize a growth and development knowledge base in the care of children (pediatric), adolescent, and geriatric patients. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; also demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed. Perform other job duties as assigned. May work in multiple settings such as rehab, acute care, etc.

Performance Expectations:

Performance Expectations that are job specific will be covered during your department orientation. You will be assessed for your competency of these expectations during your first 90 days of employment

  • Demonstrate the ability to tolerate physically demanding tasks of moving equipment and patients utilizing safety measures for both yourself and/or patients per the physical/environmental demands specified below.
  • Demonstrates proper, secure documentation in the Electronic Medical Record
  • Demonstrates the ability to use critical thinking with patient evaluation and treatment planning
  • Demonstrates understanding of Ultrasound, Iontophoresis, Moist Heat, Paraffin, Electrical Stimulation and other modalities commonly used as they apply to each area of practice and utilizing age-specific patient care indicators
  • Demonstrates understanding of the musculoskeletal, nervous and integumentary system utilizing age-specific patient care indicators as it relates to each structure
  • Appropriately identifies learning needs of patient or family members
  • Able to perform patient evaluations with use of appropriate functional tests/measures and demonstrates the ability to assimilate objective measures along with social factors, medical stability, activity restrictions, participation limitations or other relative comorbidities to determine functional deficits and construct short term goals, long term goals and personal/family goals with an appropriate frequency and duration in order to establish the therapy diagnosis and appropriate plan of care.
  • Works as a team member to assist patient/family at all points of entry into the therapy care system including evaluation/treatment, scheduling, etc.

Qualifications:

Education/Skills

The incumbent shall, at a minimum, be a graduate of a four year bachelor’s degree approved

Occupational Therapy Program. Therapists and Therapy Assistants will have a minimum of 2 hours of

stroke education annually.

Work Experience:

May be a recent graduate.

Certification/Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE

  • Permanent or temporary license as an Occupational Therapist from the Mississippi State Department of Health.

Additional Certification/Licensure - Obtained based on required timeframe below

  • Basic Life Support

Must interpret and follow physician's orders, cooperate with co-workers and superiors, be responsive to

patient needs and demands, and demonstrate initiative towards completion of treatment goals.
