Accountabilities:

The Senior Underwriting Director will oversee the strategic direction and operational performance of the underwriting unit, ensuring profitable growth, effective risk management, and strong team development. This role requires a leader who can combine industry expertise with business acumen to improve processes, support decision-making, and build a culture of excellence.

  • Develop and execute strategic plans and forecasting activities for the underwriting unit.
  • Lead underwriting operations to achieve regional and organizational business objectives.

  • Ensure underwriting practices deliver strong efficiency, productivity, and risk management outcomes.

  • Analyze business data and performance metrics to identify improvement opportunities.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate brings extensive underwriting expertise combined with proven leadership experience. You are a strategic thinker who can balance business objectives, risk considerations, and team development in a complex insurance environment.

  • 10+ years of experience in underwriting.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a leadership or senior management role.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial insurance underwriting practices, risk assessment, and market trends.
  • Demonstrated experience with strategic planning, portfolio management, and business performance optimization.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
  • Strategic leadership style with a strong focus on coaching and developing people.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proven ability to improve processes and increase operational efficiency.
  • Collaborative mindset with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience in commercial insurance or specialized insurance markets is highly preferred.
