Outside Sales Representative - Top 5 Responsibilities
The Outside Sales Representative is responsible for developing new business, expanding customer relationships, and driving revenue growth within an assigned territory. This role requires a proactive, field-focused approach to customer engagement, market development, and solution selling.

1. Market Expansion & Relationship Development – Growing Territory Presence
Identify, pursue, and win new business opportunities while cultivating long-term customer partnerships that drive territory growth.

  • Build a deep understanding of customer needs, market trends, and industry dynamics.
  • Proactively engage with prospective clients to develop trust and uncover new opportunities.
  • Expand share of wallet by deepening relationships within existing accounts.
2. Sales Pipeline Management & Execution – Driving Opportunities Through the Funnel
Manage the full sales cycle from prospecting to close, ensuring a consistent and measurable pipeline of qualified opportunities.
  • Cultivate relationships with decision-makers and influencers to advance deals.
  • Use CRM tools to track progress, manage follow-ups, and ensure pipeline health.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to align solutions with customer needs and expectations.
3. Customer Satisfaction & Retention – Building Loyalty Through Service Excellence
Deliver a high standard of customer care by providing ongoing support, communication, and follow-through.
  • Act as a responsive, knowledgeable point of contact for customer questions and concerns.
  • Identify and address customer challenges, escalating issues when needed.
  • Create upsell and cross-sell opportunities through consistent relationship-building.
4. Field Engagement & Industry Presence – Staying Connected to the Front Lines
Maintain a strong presence in the field to stay connected with operations and informed about current activity and challenges.
  • Build relationships with on-site personnel, service companies, and operational teams.
  • Visit job sites regularly to gather insights and provide visible support.
  • Represent the company’s brand with professionalism and credibility in the field.
5. Territory Planning & Strategic Execution – Maximizing Coverage and Efficiency
Develop and execute a territory plan that balances proactive prospecting, customer visits, and account maintenance for sustained growth.
  • Use sales data, market insights, and historical trends to guide outreach strategies.
  • Plan and prioritize daily activities to optimize time and resources.
  • Leverage tools and technology to track activities, set goals, and drive accountability.
