Work Requirment: This position will require travel between Christus Shoreline and Christus South hospitals.
About the Role:
The Medical Assistant is an onsite, hospital-based position responsible for supporting TeleSpecialists physicians and hospital clinical teams in the delivery of patient care. The Medical Assistant serves as an onsite liaison between TeleSpecialists providers and hospital staff, helping facilitate timely clinical workflows, coordinate patient-related activities, maintain accurate documentation, and support the effective delivery of telemedicine services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide onsite support for TeleSpecialists clinical services at the assigned hospital location.
- Serve as an onsite liaison between TeleSpecialists physicians and hospital physicians, nurses, and other clinical personnel.
- Assist with coordinating telemedicine consultations and ensuring patients, hospital staff, equipment, and required information are prepared for physician evaluation.
- Facilitate timely communication between TeleSpecialists providers and hospital clinical teams regarding patient care and clinical workflow needs.
- Assist with patient flow and coordination of time-sensitive clinical activities in accordance with established protocols.
- Support providers by obtaining, organizing, and communicating appropriate patient information and documentation.
- Accurately document patient interactions, clinical coordination activities, and other required information in applicable electronic health record (EHR) or TeleSpecialists systems.
- Monitor the status of assigned patients and clinical activities and communicate delays, barriers, or unresolved issues to appropriate clinical personnel.
- Assist hospital staff with the use and coordination of TeleSpecialists telemedicine equipment and technology, as appropriate to the role.
- Identify and escalate clinical, operational, or technology-related issues that could affect timely patient care.
- Maintain effective working relationships with hospital personnel and represent TeleSpecialists professionally within the hospital environment.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, hospital policies, TeleSpecialists policies, and applicable patient privacy and safety requirements.
- Support process improvement initiatives designed to improve patient care, hospital partnership, and operational effectiveness.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of a Medical Assistant program or equivalent healthcare training.
- Medical Assistant certification or registration preferred.
- Minimum of 1–3 years of experience in a healthcare, hospital, physician practice, or other clinical support environment preferred.
- Prior experience working directly with physicians, nurses, and other clinical personnel preferred.
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems preferred.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, clinical workflows, and patient care coordination required.
- Prior experience supporting telehealth or hospital-based telemedicine services preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of healthcare operations, hospital workflows, patient coordination, and medical terminology.
- Ability to work effectively within a hospital environment and interact professionally with physicians, nurses, patients, and hospital personnel.
- Ability to prioritize activities in a fast-paced, time-sensitive clinical environment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate documentation.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to follow established clinical and operational protocols while exercising appropriate judgment.
- Ability to recognize and promptly escalate issues affecting patient care or service delivery.
- Ability to navigate EHR, telemedicine, and other healthcare technology platforms.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently while functioning effectively as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
- High level of professionalism, accountability, reliability, and discretion.

Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position, either standing or sitting, for periods of time while supporting patient care activities.
- Must be able to frequently move throughout the hospital and between patient care areas during the workday.
- Must be able to push, pull, maneuver, and position mobile telemedicine carts and associated equipment between patient rooms and other clinical areas.
- Must be able to navigate hospital hallways, patient rooms, nursing stations, elevators, and other clinical environments while safely transporting equipment.
- Frequently operates computers, telemedicine equipment, and other technology used to support patient consultations.
- Must be able to position and adjust telemedicine equipment as necessary to support effective patient-provider interactions.
- Must be able to exchange accurate information with patients, physicians, nurses, hospital personnel, and TeleSpecialists team members in person, by telephone, and through digital platforms.
- Must be able to occasionally move, position, or transport equipment and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Requires visual and auditory ability sufficient to operate telemedicine equipment, review electronic information, communicate effectively, and support patient care activities.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position within an active hospital and patient-care environment, with or without reasonable accommodation.
