Residential Education Manager

Alfred State College invites passionate, student-centered leaders to join our Residential Life team as a 12-month, live-in Residential Education Manager for the 2026-2027 academic year. This role is more than a job- it's an opportunity to make a meaningful difference every day while living and working in a vibrant, student-focused campus community.

As a Residential Education Manager, you will play a central role in shaping a thriving, supportive residential environment. You'll be a steady mentor, a thoughtful problem solver, and a community builder who brings people together through purposeful leadership and care.

Lead & Inspire:

  • Recruit, train, and supervise a talented team of student leaders dedicated to creating welcoming, supportive, and inclusive residence hall communities.
  • Build Transformational Experiences
  • Bring the residential curriculum to life by facilitating meaningful learning opportunities beyond the classroom and helping students explore their values, goals, and personal development.

Be the Bridge

  • Connect students with faculty, staff, and key campus resources.
  • Translate policies into clear, community-building expectations that help students succeed.

Keep the Community Thriving

  • Oversee hall operations, including building openings and closings, safety processes, and large-scale community programs.
  • Maintain a consistent and visible presence-someone residents know they can rely on.
  • Participate in an evening and weekend schedule that supports the needs of a dynamic residential environment.
  • Serve in the Residence Director On-Duty (RDOD) rotation, providing campus-wide support and supervision during after-hours periods.

Grow as a Professional

Work collaboratively with Assistant Directors to design, implement, and assess the residential curriculum, ensuring meaningful learning experiences across the residential communities. Serve in leadership roles for departmental committees, contributing to program development, strategic initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts. Participate as an active member of the Area Senior Leadership Team, supporting decision-making, staff development, and the overall vision and direction of Residential Services.

At Alfred State, you'll join a passionate, mission-driven team committed to supporting students academically, personally, and socially. You'll collaborate with professionals who value mentorship, inclusive, and lifelong learning ? and you'll be supported every step of the way.

This is a role where your leadership matters, your voice is valued, and the work you do has a direct and lasting impact on the student experience.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; master's-prepared candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. (Applicants with substantial leadership, Residential Life, or student development experience may be considered in place of a graduate degree.)
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively while using strong independent judgment.

  • Willingness to engage in a dynamic, full-time, live-in role that includes evening, weekend, and on-duty responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field.
  • Professional experience in Residential Life, Student Affairs, or another student-centered functional area.
  • Experience supervising student leaders, implementing residential curricula, or supporting crisis response.
