Turret Punch Press Setup/Operator at XLI Manufacturing LLC – Rochester, New York

The Turret Punch Press Setup / Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC turret punch press machines to produce high-quality sheet metal components in a safe and efficient manner. This role requires strong technical knowledge of turret punch tooling, blueprint interpretation, and the ability to independently manage machine setups while meeting production and quality requirements.

• Perform complete setup of CNC turret punch press machines, including tooling selection, installation, alignment, and tool condition verification
  
• Load, verify, and adjust CNC programs as required for material type, thickness, and part specifications
  
• Operate turret punch press equipment to produce sheet metal parts per work instructions and production schedules
  
• Read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, routings, and work orders
  
• Conduct first-piece inspections and ongoing in-process checks using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and other measuring tools
  
• Monitor machine performance and make adjustments to maintain quality, accuracy, and efficiency
  
• Identify and troubleshoot tooling, programming, material, or machine-related issues and escalate when necessary
  
• Perform routine preventive maintenance and ensure machines and tooling are properly maintained and stored
  
• Accurately record production data, scrap, downtime, and material usage in the manufacturing system
  
• Follow all safety policies, including lockout/tagout and machine guarding requirements
  
• Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with 5S standards
  
• Support continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, and quality initiatives
  
• Assist in training or mentoring operators and supporting cross-functional teams as needed
  

• High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training preferred
  
• 2–5 years of experience setting up and operating CNC turret punch press machines
  
• Experience with common turret punch brands such as Amada, Trumpf, Murata, or equivalent preferred
  
• Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes and materials (steel, aluminum, stainless steel)
  
• Ability to read blueprints and working knowledge of GD&T
  
• Proficiency using precision measuring instruments
  
• Basic computer skills for CNC controls and production tracking systems
