Job Description
We are seeking a Maintenance Manager to lead facilities operations within a portfolio exceeding 350,000 square feet across Canada, where facilities management plays a critical role in connecting people, places, and processes to drive safety and workplace productivity. Reporting to the Senior Facilities Manager, you will oversee daily maintenance operations, ensuring all facilities remain safe, functional, and fully compliant with applicable codes and standards.
This hands-on leadership role is accountable for guiding a high-performing team, coordinating contractors, optimizing service delivery, and identifying opportunities to reduce operating costs while supporting broader business objectives. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, proven experience in facilities leadership, strong problem-solving capability, and a continuous improvement mindset, with the ability to deliver reliable, high-quality service in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
Primary Responsibilities
- Oversee maintenance, repair, and operation of building systems including HVAC, electrical, controls, plumbing, fire/life safety, elevators and building envelope ensuring high-quality outcomes and alignment with service standards.
- Provide leadership to building operations team and manage facilities-related contracts and vendor relationships to ensure performance, compliance, and optimal value.
- Develop and manage preventative maintenance programs.
- Diagnose complex building issues and determine appropriate repair or replacement strategies.
- Act as the primary point of contact for employees regarding facility maintenance and building operations, delivering exceptional internal customer service.
- Implement and maintain operational standards, policies, and procedures, including site-specific facility protocols and documentation.
- Assist in budget planning and ensure maintenance activities are delivered within approved budget allocations.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives to enhance maintenance practices, reduce equipment downtime, and boost operational efficiency.
- Foster a strong safety culture and ensure full compliance with health and safety regulations and policies.
- Provide on-call support as needed for emergency or off-hours issues.
- Travel may be required to support multiple locations.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in a relevant technical field or a valid trade certification, combined with equivalent practical experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in facilities operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Familiarity with building codes, safety regulations, and preventative maintenance practices.
- Strong working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, pumps, controls and electrical systems, with the ability to support troubleshooting and preventive maintenance.
- Ability to engage professionally with internal stakeholders, vendors, and contractors.
- Skilled at managing multiple tasks and priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with building automation systems and their operation.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Project), AutoCAD and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; French language proficiency is an asset.
- Possession of a valid drivers license and ability to operate a company vehicle.
How We Work
Work Schedule: 37.5 hours per week - flexible within core business hours.
Work Arrangement: This is an onsite position. Limited opportunity to work remotely.
It is a requirement that General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada be registered with the Canadian Controlled Goods program and that all of its workforce be security assessed. Successful applicants must meet all applicable security requirements, including but not limited to the ability to obtain and maintain a Canadian government security clearance. Applicants may be required to meet additional security requirements in order to gain access to technical data, classified areas or information that is subject to international regulations. You must be eligible to work in Canada.
Additional Information
The hiring range for this position is $90,000-$107,000 CAD annual. This role is also eligible for the management incentive plan. Our goal is to provide a fair and competitive offer based on an assessment of internal equity and your qualifications, including:
