Purpose:
The Teaching Assistant for the Music Program provides vital instructional and administrative support to faculty, staff, and students. This role assists with tutoring and mentoring students, supporting curriculum development, and fostering student success through both academic and co-curricular engagement. Responsibilities include helping faculty with instructional materials and classroom setup, offering one-on-one or group tutoring sessions, and mentoring students in technical and creative skills. The Teaching Assistant also plays an active role in supporting student events, workshops, and activities both at the Recording School Building (6690 Sunset Blvd.) and, as needed, at other campus facilities.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities (those that must be performed with or without an ADA Accommodation):
- Tutoring and mentoring students in the Audio and Music Production program.
- Program Director and Program Manager administrative assistance.
- Assisting in the maintenance of program education files.
- Instructor assistance and assistance in curriculum development.
- Assisting at monthly open house, orientation and student events
- Directing students to resources such as student advising, financial aid, Connect desk etc.
- Assisting communication with instructors, Equipment Room, and IMT Department.
- Attending and documenting meetings, and completing trainings when necessary.
- Maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
Competencies | Knowledge | Skills | Abilities:
- Well-rounded in Pro Tools, Logic Pro, and Ableton Live
- Experience and education in music theory
- Positive attitude, a desire to help others, and a passion for educating
- Strong customer service skills
- Good organizational skills
- Good written and verbal communication
- High degree of computer literacy
Education | Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Audio or Music Production
Computer Skills:
- Proficient with Mac OS
- Proficient with standard office applications (Microsoft Office Suite, Google Drive).

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to have the ability to maintain active communication; access, input and retrieve information from the computer system.
Physical Demands (are those that are required and performed with or without an accommodation):
- Demonstrated ability to lift and carry equipment up to 25 pounds
- May have cause to bend, stand, sit, and reach
- Use of keyboards
- Effectively operate general office equipment such as a computer, scanner and other LAFS office equipment
- Ability to work with visual requirements including color, depth perception, alignment and field of vision
- Frequent use of computer screens and other tech devices
