Job Description
POSITION DETAILS:
Part-time with benefits: 48 hours in the two week pay period working during urgent care hours; Monday through Friday hours will be primarily pm shift working approximately 4pm to 10pm and every other weekend day shift approximately 9am to 5pm; schedule is known in advance.
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, performs a variety of clerical duties associated with patient care unit operations. The LPN will comply with objectives, standards and policies of the department and within the parameters of his or her preparation. Cooperates with the members of the nursing and medical staff and other hospital departments.
MAJOR JOB FUNCTION:
CLERICAL:
1. Maintains an orderly and businesslike environment at the nursing station in order to assist members of the health care team in the performance of their jobs despite high stress factors.
2 Maintains an accurate clinical record, recording information accurately per hospital policy.
3. Communicates with members of the health team, patients and visitors using verbal and written means utilizing equipment such as telephone, and computer.
4. Orders unit supplies to maintain inventory of the unit’s equipment and stock and supplies.
5. Prepares requisitions and reports for maintenance repairs.
6. Attends staff meetings at least 80% of the time. Reads all meeting minutes of those not in attendance.
7. Maintains a good working relationship among all nursing unit personnel and other hospital employees through appropriate communication. Willing to identify problems and participate in problem solving process. Demonstrates the ability to evaluate suggestions and criticism objectively.
8. Accepts reassignment as needed to provide necessary coverage for all patient care units.
9. Demonstrates proficiency in regards to the computer documentation of patient cares and any other related computerized patient information/documentation.
10. Accepts reassignment as needed to provide necessary overage for all patient care units.
11. Demonstrates proficiency regarding the computer documentation of patient cares and any other related computerized patient information/documentation.
12. Performs other duties as assigned.
CLINICAL:
13. In basic patient situations the LPN acts under the general supervision of an R.N. or the direction of a provider. In complex patient situations the LPN may perform delegated acts under the direct supervision of an R.N (N6.04 (6) WI Adm. Code).
14. The Registered Nurse may delegate any act within the scope of professional nursing to the LPN, providing the RN does the following:
- Delegates tasks commensurate with educational preparation and demonstrated abilities
- Provides direction and assistance
- Observes and monitors the activities
- Assess and evaluates the effectiveness of acts performed

15. The LPN shall not perform the functions of patient assessment, receiving MD orders, ordering prescriptions, signing consents and giving patient’s discharge instructions. Those responsibilities MUST be done in conjunction with the Registered Nurse

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
1. High School graduate or equivalent required.
2. Graduate of an approved school of practical nursing.
3. Current licensure to practice in Wisconsin as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
4. Current certification or eligibility to become BLS certified.
PREFERRED EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Medical Terminology knowledge.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
1. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
2. Excellent computer skills.
3. Excellent human relation skills as demonstrated by the ability to interface positively with all customers and employees.
4. Must complete a minimum of 8 hours of eMAR training with Super User and 2 hours 1:1 with Pharmacist, complete medication safety class and maintain ongoing competency.
5. Must acquire the knowledge and maintain established competency levels to perform all other essential duties.
6. Must have proficient computer skills with the ability to operate within a Windows environment.
7. Must have the ability to work with frequent interruptions, under stress and with minimal supervision.
8. Needs to possess as high level of intelligence and integrity, sense of responsibility and ability to comprehend and analyze details.
9. Ability to operate and handle many kinds of complex equipment.
10. Ability to demonstrate clinical competence and maintain current knowledge in caring for infant through geriatric patients.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
1. Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, and talk and hear.
2. The LPN is frequently required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms.
3. The LPN is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel or crouch.
4. The LPN must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
5. Good hearing is necessary to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discriminations in sound.
6. Visual acuity is needed to assess color changes, to verify accuracy of written materials.
7. Computer/keyboard skills required. Must have the ability to operate in a Windows environment.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Must understand and accept the possibility of exposure to inside environmental conditions, such as infectious/communicable diseases, noise, blood and bloodborne diseases, chemicals and/or chemical fumes, odors, gases, dusts, and physical injury/verbal abuse from an out-of-control patient. Frequent exposure to distressed patients, families or visitors. Must be able to function effectively under stressful situations.
