Description:

Position Summary:

A Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) will evaluate and treat residents/patients with temporary or long-term speech, hearing, swallowing, and cognitive disabilities in compliance with state and federal guidelines. They will evaluate the resident’s/patient’s speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, swallowing, and fluency and develop treatment plans. They will treat the residents/patients based on a physician’s treatment plan.

Essential Functions

  • Screens and evaluates patients/residents and develops appropriate care plan.
  • Under a physician's direction, provides direct patient/resident treatment based on established plan of care.
  • Plans, directs, or conducts rehabilitative treatment programs to restore communicative efficiency of individuals with communication and/or swallowing or cognitive problems.
  • Administers, scores, and interprets specialized hearing and speech tests.
  • Instructs residents/patients, families, and caregivers to monitor speech and provide ways to practice new skills.
  • Completes required forms and clinical records in accordance with company policy and state and/or federal regulations.
  • Documents in patient records in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Devises special tools and treatments for the specific needs of patients.
  • Provides comprehensive and compassionate therapy services in a sub-acute/skilled nursing facility setting.
  • Works collaboratively with other rehab therapists and nursing staff in a supportive team-working environment.
  • Maintains resident/patient privacy pursuant to HIPAA.
  • Ensures punctuality and regular attendance for assigned shifts.

Other Functions

  • Develops treatment plans, including short and long-term goals and methods to achieve identified goals.
  • Communicates the resident’s/patient’s speech therapy program to the family and/or guardian.
  • Keeps written documentation including evaluations, daily notes and weekly summaries.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Current knowledge of effective speech therapy techniques.
  • Familiarity with clinical needs of geriatric population.
  • Strong clinical capabilities.
Requirements:

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Language Pathology required.

Licenses/Certification:

Current license in Speech Language Therapy as required by state law.

Valid CPR certification required.

Experience:

Six months experience in a long-term care environment preferred.
