GENERAL SUMMARY
-
The Physician Informaticist provides physician leadership in support of the selection, planning, development, and implementation of clinical and operational information systems and technologies for CHKD. This role ensures technology adoption aligns with organizational goals for quality care, patient safety, operational efficiency, provider engagement, and patient and family satisfaction. The role works in conjunction with other leadership and physicians to develop and execute the strategic goals of the Health System related to clinical information technology. The Physician Informaticist may provide clinical services via lease to the appropriate clinical service entity (e.g., CMG, CSSG, etc.). Reports to departmental leadership.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assesses and communicates the information technology needs of the various provider constituencies within the CHKDHS as they relate to the selection, development and implementation of clinical information systems.

Translates patient care requirements into specifications, enhancements and continued development of clinical information systems.

Communicates broadly with the Professional Staff the organizational strategy, priorities and plans relative to the adoption of clinical information systems.

Leads and participates in implementation of clinical information systems through needs assessment, collaboration and consensus-building with clinical leadership, and participation in application design, build and deployment.

Reviews and helps prioritize project requests within the scope of the information technology strategic plan.

Identifies best practices, national trends, experiences, regulatory requirements and opportunities as they relate to the adoption of clinical information systems at CHKDHS.

Participates in the development of technical and application strategies to improve patient safety, real-time improvement in patient care, clinician efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

Applies principles of management science to the delivery of health care.

Collaborates in clinical transformation, process improvement, and compliance initiatives with emphasis on adoption of information technology solutions.

Works with key clinical providers and leadership to develop clinical decision support tools instrumental to evidence-based medicine and best practices.

Promotes advanced application of information technology in medical education and research.

Builds strong relationships with all stakeholders and fosters cooperation, coordination, and communication between the organization and globally dispersed leaders.

Serves in Physician Leadership roles related to the use of technology to deliver clinical services (e.g., Medical Director of Telehealth).

Performs all other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
-
Required Education and Experience
-
Physician member of the CHKD Professional Staff (meets all requirements of Professional Staff membership).

MD or DO required.
-
Three or more years’ experience in using healthcare information technology.

Preferred Education and Experience
-
Advanced management degree (M.B.A., M.H.A., M.M.M.) or certification in healthcare information technology preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS
-
Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature and the like with exception of visits to the computer room.
