Job Description
General Summary
The Business Development is responsible for locating and developing new customers and business partners for the Contracting Division, predominately in the Commercial and Development Market. The incumbent will target underdeveloped markets where Sunrock has resource centers and opportunities for growth including Vance, Granville and Franklin Counties along with our western market including Caswell, Person, Alamance, Orange and Guilford Counties. This individual must be able to quickly analyze what is required to accomplish specific goals; eliminate roadblocks, and create a concentrated effort on the end result. It is essential that strong relationships be developed with our existing and targeted customer base and others as directed. This role receives very general guidance with respect to overall objectives. Work is usually quite independent of others and operates within division or department policy guidelines using independent judgment in achieving assigned objectives. The individual will practice absolute confidentiality. Good judgment and common sense is required in all duties and any other tasks as assigned. The normal work hours are 8:00am – 5:00pm Monday through Friday and evenings, nights, and weekends as needed. Minimal overnight travel (up to 10%) as required. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Complies with all safety policies, procedures, established safe practices, and ensures that all employees reporting to you do the same. Reports all unsafe conditions and actions to a supervisor andor the Manager Health & Safety.
- Monitors the safety practices (including PPE) of all team members and proactively addresses deficits.
- Follows all requirements listed in the Supervisor Safety Procedures Manual (SSPM) including, but not limited to, safety training, emergency procedures, accident reporting and investigation, and employee observations.
- Ensures compliance of production staff with all policies and procedures, OSHA, MSHA, and NCDOT guidelines.
- Maintains a clean and orderly work area and meets other housekeeping needs as required by Sunrock, MSHA 30 CFR 56.20003, and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.22.
- Coordinate with Sunrock Material Market Managers.

- Development of new customers and markets
- Coordinate projects and growth with Contracting Operations Team.
- Handoff of new work to Contracting Operations to construct.
- Monitor work and customer relationship
- Increase market volume and share.
- Review estimates with Chief Estimator and/or VP/GM
- Track and communicate plans & results with VP/GM & Estimators.
- Strengthen existing customer relationships.
- Continually identify and create new customers.
- Balance workload with other Sunrock estimators.
- Follow and track market & industry trends, competitor’s revenue volume and market share, customer expectations and other market drivers.
- Provides leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
- Participates in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
- Performs other duties assigned.
Education andor Experience
Bachelors in Business, Construction Management or related field with five (5) + years of experience preferred. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Current North Carolina Driver’s License required
- NC General Contractor License Preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
- Ability to develop new customer relationship and opportunities.
- Ability to understand customer needs and issues and link them to Sunrock’s offerings.
- Maintain understanding and have the ability to discuss key industry issues at multiple levels within an organization
- Capable of understanding and leveraging industry/market trends and basic business concepts
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret engineering and construction plans and designs, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to review and analyze project costs compared to bids and work with General Superintendents to make necessary adjustments on project and adjust bids based on knowledge developed on past projects.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Intermediate personal computer skills, including electronic mail, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
- Ability to effectively prioritize tasks.
- Handles multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Prioritizes, organizes, and delegates assignments as needed.
