Diesel Mechanic Apprentice Program

About the Program
The program consists of a three-year accelerated development experience, recognized by the Department of Labor’s Apprenticeship TN standards, and integrates classroom instruction with hands-on work experience, progressively improving diagnostic skills and abilities each year. Apprentices develop practical expertise in diesel systems used in our transit fleet and can become certified in various industry areas and technical disciplines at our WeGo Maintenance facilities.
- Training to be a mechanic can be expensive. We offer training experience, a full-time salary, and health insurance benefits so you can earn while you learn.

An ideal candidate is someone who enjoys solving problems and working with their hands to do it, and with:
- A resume and a passing score on the Bennett Mechanical Aptitude test
- Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
- High school diploma or GED equivalency
- Must possess or obtain and maintain a valid Tennessee License and a medical certificate from the Department of Transportation. Within the course of the program, you must obtain a Class A driver’s license with air brake and passenger endorsements by the date of appointment as a journey-level mechanic

- Physically capable of performing the essential functions of the occupation
It is a collaborative effort between WeGo Public Transit and the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1235 (ATU), ensuring that training, mentoring, and credentialing requirements are fulfilled.
