Job Description
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Director of Engineering to oversee all maintenance and engineering operations for our 123-room Courtyard hotel. This role is responsible for ensuring the safety, functionality, and efficiency of all building systems, guest rooms, and hotel facilities while delivering an exceptional guest experience.
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the Engineering Department, including hotel, grounds, and parking facilities
- Oversee maintenance of 123 guest rooms with PTAC HVAC systems and a central boiler
- Conduct and document balcony inspections to ensure structural safety and compliance
- Maintain and troubleshoot plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems
- Oversee pool and jacuzzi operations, including pumps, filtration systems, and chemical balance (certification required)
- Ensure safe operation of outdoor fire pit and related gas systems
- Coordinate maintenance and inspections of elevators
- Maintain kitchen equipment (gas systems, exhaust, fire suppression) and laundry/dryer equipment
- Implement and manage preventative maintenance programs across all areas of the hotel
- Perform regular property inspections to ensure safety, cleanliness, and operational efficiency
- manage departmental budgets (annual, monthly, and capital)
- Monitor expenses and implement cost-control and energy conservation initiatives
- Maintain maintenance logs, reports, and compliance documentation
- Ensure adherence to corporate purchasing and contractor bidding procedures
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, fire life safety, and environmental regulations
- Lead safety training programs (Lockout/Tagout, Right-to-Know, MSDS, fire safety, evacuation procedures)
- Administer Workers’ Compensation program in accordance with company and state guidelines
- Maintain a safe environment for guests and associates
- Train, schedule, and supervise engineering staff
- Provide ongoing technical and safety training
- Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and service excellence
- Collaborate with hotel leadership to maintain brand standards
- High School diploma required; technical or trade school training preferred
- Minimum 5 years of maintenance experience, including 3 years in a supervisory or management role in a hotel environment
- EPA Certification (Level II or higher preferred)
- Pool Certification required
- Strong knowledge of HVAC (PTAC systems), boilers, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems
- Experience with hotel kitchen and laundry equipment preferred
- Knowledge of energy conservation and green practices
- Strong leadership and organizational skills
- Effective problem-solving and decision-making ability
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Professional and service-oriented demeanor
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and climbing
- Ability to safely work with tools, equipment, and chemicals
