Job Description:

The Electrical Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring that all electrical components, wiring systems, assemblies, and final products meet Tomball Controls’ standards for safety, quality, and customer specifications. This role serves as the technical quality expert for electrical manufacturing, leading root-cause analysis, driving corrective actions, improving processes, and partnering closely with production, engineering, and suppliers to prevent defects and ensure consistent, reliable performance of all electrical systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct electrical, paint, and assembly inspections to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Track and document non-conformities and initiate corrective actions when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of non-conformities, inspection reports, and other quality related items.
  • Collaborate with production teams to address quality issues and improve processes.
  • Perform visual inspections and use measurement tools to verify product dimensions and tolerances.
  • Assist in the preparation of quality reports and documentation.
  • Participate in quality audits and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Write work instructions for work to be performed in production.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality standards for electrical components, harnesses, panels, and assemblies.
  • Perform in-process inspections, final inspections, and FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) on electrical systems.
  • Ensure compliance with NEC, UL, ISO, customer specifications, and internal standards.
  • Validate electrical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams for accuracy prior to release.
  • Lead 5-Why, Fishbone, and other structured problem-solving exercises for electrical-related defects.
  • Drive effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to eliminate repeat issues.
  • Maintain defect logs, trend data, and quality metrics for continuous improvement
  • Improve electrical build processes, testing protocols, and inspection standards to prevent defects at the source.
  • Support customer audits, inspections, and FAT events
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with customers regarding quality standards, test results, and corrective actions.
Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree; or equivalent years of experience
  • 3+ years of quality engineering experience in electrical, panel-building, controls, power systems, or related manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Strong attention to detail and visual awareness.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of quality management systems and familiarity with industry standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some mechanical knowledge.
  • Familiarity with paint inspection techniques and standards.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 or similar quality management systems.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 pounds.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in a manufacturing and office environment.
  • Exposure to noise, insulation, dust, and temperature variations in the shop area.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required during inspections.
