About This Position

Key Responsibilities

  • Fabricate composite airframe components using carbon fiber layup methods (wet layup, prepreg if applicable), vacuum bagging, and cure processes.
  • Perform trim, fit, drill, bond, assemble, and finish operations to aircraft-quality standards.
  • Prepare molds/tools: release systems, surface prep, tool maintenance, and controlled storage.
  • Execute composite repairs (scarf, patch, reinforcement) and document repair processes.
  • Install and bond hardware/attachments (inserts, hardpoints, hinges, fairings) with attention to load paths and corrosion control.
  • Work from drawings, work instructions, and/or CAD-derived prints; assist in building repeatable work instructions.
  • Conduct quality checks: laminate inspection, measurements, weight/CG awareness, surface finish checks; support root-cause analysis of defects.
  • Maintain clean, safe workspaces; comply with EHS requirements for resins, solvents, PPE, and ventilation.
  • Support rapid prototyping, iterative builds, and test article modifications as mission needs evolve.

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of hands-on composites experience (carbon fiber layup) and/or aircraft structures manufacturing/repair background.
  • Comfortable with common composite processes: surface prep, mixing ratios, ply orientation, vacuum bagging fundamentals, and bonding.
  • Familiarity with aircraft-style artistry: fastener installation, drilling practices, deburring, fit-up, and torque discipline.
  • Ability to read basic technical drawings and follow documented build processes.
  • Strong attention to detail, cleanliness, and repeatability.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with UAS, aerospace, marine composites, or motorsports composites.
  • Vacuum infusion/resin infusion experience.
  • Prepreg handling and cure knowledge (oven/autoclave concepts, even if not used daily).
  • Experience supporting prototype builds and “engineering change” environments.
  • Basic electrical/mechanical integration familiarity (routing, strain relief, lightweight hardware).
  • Prior work in regulated environments (DoD, aerospace QA, ISO-like documentation).

Physical / Work Conditions

  • On-site fabrication environment; may involve standing, lifting, PPE use, solvents/epoxies, and occasional outdoor work near waterfront operations.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and work around jigs/fixtures and ladders safely.
