About This Position
Job Summary:
The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse PR actioner renders medical care to mentally ill patients. They are responsible for assessment of patients, prescribing medications within their protocols, rendering therapy, and in conjunction with the Psychiatrist on protocol completing staffing. Provides general psychiatric care and treatment to patients in the clinic as well as inpatient and residential areas in collaboration/consultation with a psychiatrist currently holding an unrestricted license in Mississippi. In accordance with their Board of Nursing approved protocol, the psychiatric nurse practitioner will assess, diagnose, and treat a variety of mental illnesses. Additionally, the psychiatric nurse practitioner will provide core education and counseling to promote mental health. The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status. Interpretation of information is required to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed. Provide appropriate psychiatric care for the setting while being fiscally mindful and seek collaboration as needed.
Complies with established standards. Maintains established Clinic policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control. Interprets these to physician(s), patients, and public as is appropriate. Utilize supplies and equipment in a cost-effective manner. Maintains a clean, orderly, safe environment for patients and personnel. Cooperates with other personnel to achieve Clinic objectives and maintain good employee relations, interdepartmental relations, and public relations. Maintain patient rights and confidentiality of patient information, and abide by established communications code. The Nurse Practitioner must utilize a growth and development knowledge base in the care of children (pediatric), adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to appropriately communicate and interact with the patients, families, and visitors of all age groups while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs. Will be required to achieve quality patient care and job performance measured through reporting, direct and indirect observation, evaluation, feedback, and skills check-offs. Performs any and all other duties not listed or otherwise delineated as assigned by Director of Outpatient Clinics and/or their designee.
Will float and provide services to other clinics within the health system on a scheduled or ad hoc basis, as operational needs dictate.
Performance Expectations:
- Functions within the established scope of practice for patient care including diagnosis, treatment, plan of care, and consultation.
- Utilizes growth and development knowledge base in the care of children (pediatric), adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
- Maintains all required licensures, certifications, continuing education requirements, and collaborative chart reviews.
- Utilizes supplies and equipment in a cost-effective manner.
- Maintains a clean, orderly, safe environment for patients and personnel.
- Maintain patient rights and confidentiality of patient information, and abides by established communications code.
- Appropriately communicates and interacts with the patients, families, and visitors of all age groups while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs.
- Monitors Epic Dashboards, In-baskets, and Messaging applications in addition to company email for important communications and takes action when applicable.
- Utilizes various reports and dashboards to complete clinical and operational task.
- Efficiently uses point of care test according to manufacturer instructions and documents results accurately and timely.
- Makes accurate and timely documentation in electronic medical record and closes charts within prescribed organization standards.
- Performs all functions efficiently and effectively and within required and assigned timeframes.
- Monitors productivity and makes necessary adjustments as necessary in collaboration with Clinic leadership.
- Interacts effectively and builds respectful relationships with physicians, other health care professionals, and other health-related agencies.
- Communicates and cooperates with all clinic and health system personnel respectfully and in accordance with Employee Handbook standards to achieve objectives and maintain good employee relations, interdepartmental relations, and public relations.
- Behavior both at work and away from facility positively reflects on the profession as well as facility and organization. Behavior must coincide with facility's Code of Conduct as well as the State Board of Nursing and all applicable boards.
- If applicable, must acquire and follow RHC standards and policies.
- Complies with all RHC, VFC, EPSDT, and accountable care organization’s compliance related policies, statutes, and regulations, and payer terms and conditions of participation.
- Adheres to and promotes the established values of the organization (We CARE, ACO, Language of Caring, safety, Code of Conduct, HIPAA, compliance standards and all others).
Qualifications:
Education/Skills
Graduate of a recognized non-online RN program. Successful completion of a Masters in Psychiatric Nursing Program required. Successfully completed at least 700 clinical practice hours with supervision preferred. Knowledge of codes for diagnosis and visit level. Basic business and computer skills required.
Work Experience:
Clinical Experience as Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is preferred, but not required.
Certification/Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE
- Licensed as an APRN by MS State Board of Nursing.
- Certification as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or other approved National Credentialing Agency.
