Job Description:

The Lead Patient Financial Counselor serves as a subject matter expert and frontline leader supporting the patient financial counseling team. This role provides day to day guidance, training, and workflow coordination while actively assisting patients with resolving financial obligations through insurance verification, payments arrangements and public assistance programs. The Lead ensures adherence to regulatory requirements, departmental policies and high standards of patient experience, while supporting timely and accurate revenue cycle outcomes. Acts as a cross-functional lead resource, providing backup coverage across all units and floating between departments and hospital locations as needed to support operational demands.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Minimum of High School Diploma.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in patient financial counseling, healthcare revenue cycle, insurance verification or healthcare collections.
  • Prior experience in a hospital, physician office required.
  • Previous lead experience preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of insurance benefits and verification processes, Indiana Medicaid eligibility, Marketplace and financial assistance programs.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology, CPT and ICD coding preferred.
  • Ability to handle complex and sensitive financial discussions with patients.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) skills preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Strong data entry accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with 10 key calculator and typing 35 WPM.
  • Ability to work independently while fostering a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills in a fast paced environment.
  • Complete Indiana Certified Navigator training and certification within 6 months of hire and maintain active certification through annual renewal and continuing educational requirements.
  • Maintains reliable transportation and the ability to travel hospital in a timely manner.
