About This Position
Responsibilities
The Chief Engineer plays a critical role in maintaining the safety, functionality, and efficiency of the Morgan’s architecturally-significant 150,000 square foot campus. The position oversees the operation, preventive maintenance, and repair of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and related systems, and serves as a close partner to the Director of Facilities in ensuring the smooth execution of capital projects. The position leads a team of engineers, promoting their professional development and ensuring safe work practices, and manages vendor relationships for repairs, service contracts, and capital improvement projects. This position reports to the Director of Facilities
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
· Strong working knowledge of building management systems and controls
· Expertise in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems
· Proficiency with tools, lifts, and maintenance equipment
· Ability to read and interpret blueprints
· Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
· Proficiency in computer applications, including CMMS, Microsoft Word, and Excel
Education & Experience
· High school diploma or GED required
· 7-10 years of experience in building engineering operations
Required Valid New York Certificates of Fitness:
· Q-01 Refrigerating System Operating Engineer
· A-35 Air Compressor Operation
· S-12 Citywide Sprinkler Systems
· S-13 Citywide Standpipe Systems
· P-98 Fuel-Oil Piping and Storage Systems
· F-89 Fire Life Safety Director
Highly desirable New York Certificates of Fitness:
· S-95 Fire Alarm Systems Supervision
· F-01 Citywide Fire Guard for Impairment
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
· Work takes place across a variety of environments, including mechanical rooms, exterior grounds, and elevated or confined spaces
· This role requires schedule flexibility, including availability for some nights, weekends, and holiday work, as well as emergency on-site response as needed
· Must be able to lift 50 lbs. or more, climb stairs and ladders, and work at heights using appropriate safety equipment
· Must have sufficient hearing to safely work in equipment and mechanical areas
Compensation: $115,000-$130,000
