About This Position

Description:

The coordinator is responsible for aquatic-based programs, providing day-to-day directions to instructors and coordinating swimming teams, and private lessons, and organizes regular staff training, and conducts in- service training to maintain high safety and program quality standards. Weekly responsibilities are divided into approximately 20 hours of operational duties and 20 hours dedicated to administrative tasks, team training and development, or special events.

Essential Functions and Tasks

  • Train, schedule, and operational duties to swim instructors, lifeguards, and swim coach. Provide coverage for staff during operating hours and offer regular coaching and feedback to support staff development, addressing areas for improvement promptly as needed. Assist with in-service training monthly and teach certification courses quarterly.
  • Assist the Aquatic Supervisor with ensuring that all staff certifications are valid, current, and accurately tracked.
  • Maintain updated certification, swim lesson teaching materials, and supplies for programs.
  • Support the planning, organization, scheduling, coordination, and evaluation of aquatic programs, including group and private lessons and swim team programs.
  • Develop a positive swimming, learning, and competitive environment; to teach the fundamentals and progression of swimming skills to meet the needs of the community.
  • Review swimming lesson rosters to ensure accurate data entry and revenue in the registration management system and assist in maintaining records and reports.
  • Plan and adjust group swim lessons, schedules, transfers between classes, and create program entries as needed.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with the community, participants, rentals, and other departments as appropriate.
  • Provide swimming instruction and lifeguard coverage as needed to support operations and staffing needs.
  • Support daily aquatics operations, including recreational swimming, pool deck activities, swim practices, and lap swimming.
  • Assist in maintaining safety and emergency policies and procedures which adhere to State, County, and industry standards in collaboration with the Aquatics Supervisor.
  • Assist the Aquatic Supervisor with pool maintenance and the operation of chemical and pump room systems to ensure proper pool function.
  • Assist in maintaining records related to safety inspections, water chemistry, staff training, certifications, and maintenance.
  • Assist with aquatic sponsored special events in the pool area, including setup, cleanup, and breakdown.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Two years of progressive experience working in aquatics programs and facility management.
  • Demonstrated supervisory or management experience, including selecting, training, coordinating, evaluating, and supervising staff.
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification, 1+ year of experience.
  • American Red Cross Title 22 Certification for Public Safety Personnel, or within the first 90 days of employment.
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification within 6 months of employment
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification or within the first 6 months of employment.
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification within 6 months of employment.
  • Availability to work mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate or advanced college degree or combination of education and experience.
  • Three years of progressive experience working in aquatics programs, facility management, and staff supervision.
  • Swim Team - USA Swimming and or ASCA Swim Coach Background

Minimum Hourly Salary: $26.00 - Maximum Hourly Salary: $33.50

  • This position is non-exempt from the provisions of Section 1 of the California Industrial Welfare Commission Orders.
  • In general, the position operates on a schedule based on business needs and may require working early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
  • May work up to, but not more than, 40 hours per week across all concurrent positions.
